Does any one know how to remove the chrome handbrake lever on this model ?
Not the whole assembly just the chrome finisher, I want to fit a wooden replacement…
Regards
Mick
Twist and pull on, or twist and push away from you if removing.
They can be pretty tight fitting, wearing a grippy glove can help.
As Mick ap says (I’m a MK2 but think they are the same) there is probably a bit of butyl tape in there and heating the grip with a hairdryer may help if it’s recalcitrant… only use I’ve got for a hairdryer these days
Good luck
Dave
Mk1 to Mk3 are all twist on/off so you can put an aftermarket one on. Never owned the MK4 so unsure if or how they can be removed.
thanks guys for your early response and suggestions.
unfortunately no joy despite using the grippy gloves and heat gun.it won’t budge.
Thinking maybe I should remove the handbrake assembly before resorting to Stillsons !
tried gentle tapping with hammer to break down any adhesive but no luck :
just to update any interested owners, the chrome sleeve I attempted to remove was in fact secured with adhesive possibly araldite hence the problem I had.
I did remove the handbrake assembly and then applied brute force via 12" stilsons that removed the sleeve but mullered the lever in the process (how tight was that ).
Replacement assembly on order from MX5 Heaven !!
Enjoy the summer motoring
Mick
It was probably a loose fitting to start with hence the glue. I’ve changed three on my cars and by far the Mk3 was the pig to replace, no stilsons involved though.
