My power steering pipes are rotten and need to be replaced for the MOT.
I was wondering if anyone can give me a definitive answer to how many pipes are there on the MK 2.5? I have had a look on the car and I thought there were 2 pipes, but I have found 3 different pipes for sale. I want to replace all of them if needed, but I also don’t want to waste my money.
Hmm it keeps going up ha ha.
The ones for the MOT are the power steering pipes that you can see with the bonnet open at the bottom front of the engine. I assumed there were 2 but I am not sure now. I can’t find any info anywhere.
It gets complicated - I think there are four main pipes - two pressure pipes, a return pipe and a cooling pipe. The usual one that rusts and is visible behind the radiator is the cooling pipe. May appear to be two pipes because is does a loop. Here are MX5Parts listings for the RHD MK2/MK2.5…
Thanks for this information you are a God send. You’re right it is the cooling pipe that’s rusty. I thought it was 2 pipes so you have just saved me a good amount of money and time.
If you’ve ordered from MX5Parts, then give them a ring and ask them to supply all the items you may need, it shouldn’t increase the bill considerably and they are generally helpful in that respect. As one example- order an oil filter from them, and they also supply a sump plug washer, which doesn’t occur to most people till you read the manual.
