Mk 3 question

I am trying to find a nice Mk3 to buy (and struggling) and as its my first MX-5 I wondered if anyone had any views on how important aircon is? Of course its a nice to have but I am not sure how important it is for convertibles. Would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

I have a 2006 Mk3 without aircon - It can get a little warm in the summer with the roof down but wouldn’t know how effective the aircon is in cooling down the planet with the top doew. More effective if it is muggy and you’ve got the top up I guess.

I drive mine top down all year if it isn’t raining and have never missed it.

What you don’t have you don’t miss.

Good luck

I don’t think aircon is a big deal in the summer months - if it’s hot and sunny just chuck the roof over your shoulder, that’s what its for.

If the car is your everyday drive, on a cold damp winter day the aircon might prevent the car misting up.

My personal view is that it’s not a must have, I wouldn’t reject an otherwise acceptable car just because it doesn’t have aircon and I wouldn’t go out of my way to find one that did have it.

Follow your instincts and find the car that’s right for you - aircon is not essential (someone on here is bound to disagree though)

Aircon, not important, nice to have very occasionally, you’ve got the biggest air intake just above your head [H]

I have A/C in my Mk1 and wouldn’t be without it. During the summer months you can get uncomfortably hot with the roof down, particularly when held up in traffic at traffic lights and railway crossings. If you do decide that is what you want, make sure it blows cold when switched on.
