I have a MK1 1.8 Eunos. I bought it nearly a year ago but have only had it on the road about 4 months. I bought it with a cat back exhaust system and a decat. I have now decided I want to fit a cat to the car but after searching the internet - I have no idea which one to buy. Especially as I have a cat back on the car aswell. There seems to be so many different types. just wondered if anyone had any pointers for me! Thanks in advance ??
If the system were original I would advise that you need the 345 - 375mm cat with or without the heat fuse facility. The heat fuse is a one time use part fitted to all import Eunos cars but can be dispensed with on cat replacement.
More difficult to be sure with your system as you have fitted aftermarket where the decat may not adhere to the angles, length and hole alignment of an OE system.
What year is your car? Assuming all other things are equal you’ll need the shorter one pre 1996 and the longer one after. You’ll be able to tell by the vin number which it came with originally (a quick google will tell you after what number they changed).
1.8 Roadsters had 3 different cats; they were all roughly of the same size (not the same as UK). Different year cats will fit, but there might cause some fitment issues elsewhere in the system. 1996 cars will have VIN NA8C-4*****. On my 1996 car, I ended up fitting the longer 1994 UK cat, and a 4 branch manifold.
Well I’ve learned something today. Sorry for misleading you OP. So does that mean that late Eunoses generally use the same cat back exhaust as an early UK car?
There are three different catbacks to go with the three types of cat. the eunos OE style catback can with compromise be fitted to the 435mm cat as it is the same length. The longer 475mm cat fitted to the 1997/8 cars has a shorter catback(about 50mm).
This is why stainless catbacks generally are supplied for the Eunos and 435mm cats but not the later UK 475mm cat system.
Oh and they all have totally different front pipes as well.
The later Roadsters have the support bracket near the cat deleted (why, to save money probably). Sometimes an over officious tester, when seeing a unused bracket on an aftermarket exhaust, will fail the car on accountnthat the exhaust isn’t secured properly. I just cut the bracket off to save them the confusion.
