MK1 1.8 front bumper to upper front panel mounting

Hi,
Trying to sort out my front end damaged 1995 MK Eunos Auto.
The upper front mounting for the front bumper (connects to upper landing panel) is different from what I took of my damaged car. I bought a used bumper complete with that mounting attached but while it fits there are differences in the shape, also my original unit has two angle brackets underneath as original fitment. My original has some raised areas not found on the used replacement, what are these for?
Can anyone tell me what these brackets are for as I never thought to take photos when I stripped it.
The replacement is on the car, the original is the foreground

I’m guess its because the 1995 should have a plastic shroud that covers the slam panel, bu pre-1993 1.6 models never had this.

1.6 Engine bay

Later 1.8 with the cover in place

On a 1.8, if this cover ( called front bumper top seal, about £10 from Mazda) is missing, its a strong indicator that the bumper has been off before.

Without the pressings, fitting the cover to the early part you have doesn’t look right, it becomes all wobbly.

Autolinkuk has the correct new part, not too much, and better than the rusty part you have

Early part

Revised part

Thanks Saz,
you really know these cars:) I have the later revised part as original but it is a bit mangled so having to use the earlier 1.6, I should be able to fit the plastic cover somehow.
If the new part was cheaper I would buy it.
Still not sure what the brackets on the revised part do, should become clear as I assemble.
Appreciate your knowledge and help

There was a change in the later mk1’s where additional components were fitted in the gap in front of the radiator, from memory it might have been the washer bottle relocation for ABS cars or something like that.

Thank you Carl

That was in 1990; only a small number of cars had the opening in the slam panel blanked. Washer bottle relocation was needed on ABS-equipped cars, which became an option from 1991. On non-ABS cars, the washer bottle stayed in the usual place. Imports with ABS generally also have an airbag wheel.

I’m looking at getting the plastic air- flow front bumper top seal. Having just had a new radiator installed.

I know it’s known to be flimsy but I’d rather this than fork out for a metal one.

The thing is I have a 1992 Eunos and looking at MX-5 Parts where it’s listed it does say it’s for the 1.8 version (later version as you mention).

Also they say if fitting it to a 1.6 some holes need to be drilled.

Can you advise whether these holes to be drilled are in the plastic panel, or (hopefully not) the metal panel it attaches to?

Thanks!

The part was only for the 1.8, and will need modification to fit to a 1.6.
