Mk1 Carpeted Battery Cover Nut Query

I decided before the good weather leaves us tomorrow to get the battery out for a top-up charge.
In putting it back in and clipping the battery cover back in place, it reminded me that I always wondered…

Is there meant to be a retaining nut on the screw thread the carpeted battery covers’ plastic connector holds on to (next to the rear light)?
( or is it just just held in by the plastic catching on the screw thread and then relying on the poppers to stop it moving when the vehicles in motion).

Yes there should be a plastic nut to hold the battery cover.
