I have a MK1 Berkeley at its last oil change I used 10/40 semi synthetic, it’s now due another change and I can’t find the same oil locally.
What do other owners use and could I switch to full synthetic which seems more readily available?
When I owned a MK1 and later a Mk2 I used 10w 40 semi synthetic. Just use a decent brand and probably more often than the stated service interval, mine changed every 5k miles approx but you don’t have to
Halfords 10W 40 oil is fine. Comma, sold by most independant motor factors, is Esso.
Mobil 1 0W40 tends to keep the hydraulic tappets quiet for longer. If they do rattle on startup, use Wynn’s Hydraulic Lifter Treatment shortly before an oil change, and that should unblock them for another couple of years.
Any decent 10/40 semi will do.
