Mk1 Eunos A/C delete or not?

Predictably the A/C in my '91 Roadster doesn’t work at all. I expect it’s got no gas in it, and the hoses look past their best to be honest. I know it’s easy enough to remove it all and replace the condenser under the dash with a non-ac link pipe and a non-A/C auxiliary belt.

So, in that situation would you remove it all? I’m thinking a cleaner and easier to work in engine bay, less complication more so than the weight saving.

Would it affect your decision to buy one if it didn’t have the A/C fitted?

IF, a big IF, I had never experienced the automatic Climate Control in my Niseko, then yes I’d be perfectly happy to not have A/C, especially with the top down, why bother.

I’ve driven half a million miles without A/C in normal cars, including fifteen years in the tropics, and never felt the need for it when there was a window that could be opened.

But having been spoiled rotten by the brilliant system in the Niseko, one infinitely better than the basic A/C in my Vectra, I might be persuaded that some types of A/C are actually worth while…

But an old non-functioning simple A/C is only going to be a pain and in the way if you want to work on the engine and develop the car. If I was in your position I’d strip it out.

I would not think anyone buying one of these would expect it to work, so I see no reason not to get rid of it all. I did the same on my V-Spec.

One BIG benefit of A/C is getting the damp out. I have had a MK1 Eunos and a MK2 Eunos and now have a NC,all with A/C and would not contemplate a car without it.

I would get it fettled with new hoses and a re-gas. There are plenty of specialists about.

Thanks for the replies so far. FWIW I reckon it’d cost a significant amount to repair the current system… probably getting close to half what the car cost me

I have started removing the A/C from my 1990 Eunos Roadster - the A/C doesn’t work as there is a big hole in the condenser…

So to improve the cooling to the radiator and heating inside the car the A/C has got to go!

I got an A/C delete heater pipe from EBAY and removed most of the pipes and the A/C unit from behind the glovebox - the heater now is fantastic!!! This morning i had to turn the heater down as it was burning my legs

I’m doing the timing belt soon - so will remove the rest of the A/C when i’m doing that. I bridged the 2 wires that were connected to the A/C unit behind the glovebox and now have an extra cooling fan if i need it!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like I will be ripping it all out this weekend. Clear a bit more space in the engine bay and tidy it up a bit.
