MK1 Eunos gear knob thread size

  1. My model of MX-5 is: MK1 1.8 Eunos 1994
  2. I’m based near: Brecon, mid Wales
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: gear knob thread size

Hello. I’m planning on getting a customized wooden gear knob made for my MK1 Eunos. It current has an alloy aftermarket knob. It has a very large thread. I have tried a M14 bolt and the thread is bigger than that. I don’t have an original gear knob to compare it to. Does anyone know if the original gear stick thread is bigger than M14 or what is the correct thread size (I’m not sure if I have an aftermarket gear stick as well as gear knob or wherever the standard sticks are very big diameter. Many thanks for any help.

Gear knob thread is M10x1.25 all on MX-5s.

Many thanks. That would definitely make more sense but my gear knob and gear stick shaft are far bigger. The biggest bolt I have to hand to compare is M14 and it is a bigger thread than that - measuring it looks like M16. I’m going to buy a M16 bolt and if that fits the gear knob I will know I’m good to go. Thanks

Someone must have REALLY wanted a different gear knob!

Yeah. I can’t understand it. I know the previous owner used to hill climb the car and it definitely feels lower geared than standard so I’m wondering if it’s a different gear lever or something - will have to compare next time I see another MK1

Are you sure that there is no sleeve left on it?

This is what they look like as standard.
