Mk1 Eunos - original sterio upgrade

I’ve got a Mk1 Eunos with the original Panasonic Radio / cassette.  Unfortunately the radio now limits me to listening to 1 local station and radio 2.  Not always my preferred choice.  However,  I do like the fact that everything is original.  I’m looking at upgrading the functionality by maybe using my iphone and then playing music through a set up upgraded or replacement speakers.  Any thoughts or tips appreciated.  I’ve attached a picture to show what I’m currently working with.

Hi Chris,

Your radio needs a Expander Box you may have one fitted but has gone US, the box alters the Japan freqs to ours its a small matchbox size metal box coax in coax out and a 12v feed wire goes between the radio back and the antenna cable cost about £12 Google it then Youtube it will help you out. This box would also be fitted at the antenna end in the boot. My radio had  quite a few panel bulbs out tried to fix it but faulty circuit board and the seperate CD player didnt work so i found a Panasonic Radio/CD player tha fitted above the Cass/Radio fitted that but left the Original one still in but swapped over the harness, see the pics cheers Rob.

I think you easiest option will be a cassette adapter.

It would make sense to clean the cassette heads first, then you get something like this

(You can get them in black from other suppliers).

There is a bluetooth one knocking about, but it seems pretty poor. If you wanted bluetooth you would probably be better off getting a cassette adapter that works well for you, then hooking up a seperate bluetooth module. I expect with a bit of careful modification you could make it almost completely hidden.

Personally I just knocked the idea of keeping the original radio on the head, and bought a mechless pioneer stereo. Doesn’t look as OEM but gives much better functionality.
