Hi, I have a mk1 eunos just starting to show the signs of british winters and it’s age. I drive it regularly as my main car but don’t have a completely dry storage area. I’m looking at getting fit to last and look good for another 10 years. Any advice on:
what sort of refurbishment I should get done
the likely costs
Whilst I don’t have a specific budget I’m thinking I would struggle to spend more than 5-6k on it given the current values.
Any thoughts or suggestions on what to do and where. I’m based in the Nottingham / Sheffield / Derbyshire area.
Happy to leave the car off road for a time.
Sorry Admin if I have posted in the wrong category so feel free to move the post.
I had mine refurbed in 2020 at https://www.mx5city.com/ in pontefract. New inner and outer sills, both front wings, repair panels on both rear arches. Cavity wax and full respray. About £5k at the time (obviously prices will have increased over time.) It took them about a week. Quality work. no complaints. Also good train links nearby so you can drop the car off with them, come back on the train.
Focus on rot first, suspension 2nd, and try and get a cheap hardtop so the winter rains and pollutants run down over the car’s rear wings instead of the drain holes having to do much work.
You can do everything else on the drip wage to wage as you feel like it. If it’s a daily, cut oil changes down to 4/5k, use a middle of road lub as it will likely be burn a bit anyhow ( not a big worry at all…about a litre per 1000 miles is fine) and keep a weather eye on coolant leaks.
I miss mine more each day! This had about 5k on rot done alone…worth every cent to me.
