Collected myself a lovely MK1 last Saturday and am loving it. Unfortunately, I was only given one immobiliser key fob and I am concerned that if I lose that , I am in the proverbial. I note from the Forum back in May last year that member Garfield detailed the specification of the I Dallas button which I can get hold off quite easily. The question is how to program it. I have contacted Garfield direct but in the meantime if anyone has been down the same route of obtaining a Maxim DS1990A I button and programming it succesfully, I would love to hear from you.
Touch the original touch key on the pad and hold it until it beeps and the LED turns green, then touch the new touch key on the pad and hold it until it beeps and the LED turns green.
I have the same problem ie only one imobiliser fob for a mk1. Just being nosey, but what sort of price were you quoted for the replacement. Do you have a picture or web link to confirm same design.
Based on various bits of info picked up from other members I ordered a couple of Maxim Ibuttons, model DS1990A F5 button from RS Components. Cost about £5.40 each including a button holder. Despite lots of advice on slightly different techniques to get the immobiliser unit to register the new I button, I have not been successful . It might be that my immobiliser is querky, certainly some other mk1 users appear to have had success ( Joni and info from Garfield courtesy of Joni). Robbie Roadster was very helpful (thanks for all your suggestions Robbie) but I am resigning myself to the fact that maybe my car registered in Aug 1995, may have had a slightly different set up on the immobiliser. I haven’t tried speaking to Mazda dealers about a replacement, because I assumed it will be a bit expensive. Not sure even whether you will get one via your mazda dealer now. If you do enquire at a dealers, let me know how you get on. For the moment, I just have to be careful not to lose my one working ibutton fob. Considered buying a new Thatcham approved immobiliser and fitting that myself which I may well do later in the year. Work and home committments are having to take precedence at the moment . Sorry I cannot be of more help. Just out of curiosity, what model and date of registration is your mk1
