The drivers side mirror on my car is a little loose, is there any way of tightening it, or failing that can you buy a new mirror and swap the shells over so you don’t have to get the new one painted?
Edit:
Sorry, to clarify it’s the adjustable ball / socket bit that’s loose, not the door mounting.
Thanks.
Yes, as long as the spring inside is not broken. Remove the mirror from the door and run a Stanley knife blade carefully around the joint between the black mirror bezel and the shell, the bezel should then pop off. You can now access the retaining nut and bolt. You will probably find that the old bolt is very corroded so take the opportunity to replace it with a stainless bolt (M5 x 45mm/50mm) and nyloc nut and apply some anti-sieze paste to the ball and socket joint. Apply spots of superglue to the bezel to fix it back onto the shell.
I recently refurbed my mirrors in Satin Black. I partially reassembled the mirrors (minus glass and bezel) and fitted them to the car to adjust the tension. I then removed them to glue the bezel back on, pressing the mirror bezel side down onto a flat surface whilst the glue set.
