MK1 Piper Exhaust

  1. My model of MX-5 is: MK1
  2. I’m based near: Portsmouth
  3. I’m looking for recommendations on exhausts

I know the different exhausts for the MK1 have been discussed to death all over the internet but I’m wondering if anyone has tried the Piper 2 Silencer exhaust?

I’ve tried the MX5Parts option but this was way too loud and caused too much drone, especially on longer drives. Looking for something a little more noticeable than stock but nothing too loud that will drone or turn heads. I spoke to my local garage and they recommended Piper and said I need to find a resonanted exhaust.

It’s a long time since I heard about a Piper MX5 exhaust. Probably way better quality than MX5parts unbranded exhausts and a better warranty. While SS systems won’t rust through, they can and do fail, so a lifetime warranty brings peace of mind. Mongoose were good with me, and I expect Piper to be much the same.

With the tailpipe options, when you are at 4" diameter, it will likely knock on the bumper or the rear tie down hook.

Hello I’ve recently restored a mk1. I used a manifold back piper exhaust. Also had discount when buying as a member of MX5oc. Over the years I have had many performance exhausts custom made and over the counter type for numerous cars. I must say the quality of this exhaust system is stunning. driven normally it is not over the top too loud. In fact it is very respectable. When you give it some it is a wonderful sound which really makes you appreciate the sound of the Mazda.
Hopefully I can upload some photos for you to see.
I haven’t driven The car daily or regularly due to the inclement weather since restoring it but when I have driven it the exhaust does not embarrass me if that makes sense. Processing: DFB392E4-409B-4132-B85D-367DD4B4592F.jpeg…

Hi Jeff, sorry to bring up an old thread but have you got any videos of the Piper exhaust on your car? I’d love to hear the sound to see if it’s right for me. Thanks

I don’t have a video but I did end up buying one. Unfortunately had to send it back as it didn’t line up properly in the bumper cut out and I ended up burning my bumper when I took it for a test drive. I triple checked fitment and having fitted a number of exhausts on these cars am confident it was a fault in the exhaust. Fair play to Piper they accepted liability and took it back.

I’ve had the MX-5 parts exhaust and it was similar to this, maybe slightly less drone thanks to the central resonator.
