Hi all,
I’m in the middle of a full rebuild of my 92 Eunos’s chassis and so far I have a full set of IL wishbone bushes, Frame rails and butterfly brace, 3 point strut brace, GC fabrications roll bar and front and rear IL underbody braces ready to fit.
As you can tell I’m trying to stiffen up the cars structure to aid composure and remove rattles and scuttle shake as much as possible. I now need to make a final decision on which springs and dampers to go for and after months of reading forum posts and researching I still can’t decide!
I hate a crashy unsettled ride and the car will be used mainly on rural b roads with occasional track days so i’m tempted by OEM Sachs dampers and autolink springs to protect the ride. I’m fine with OEM ride height but wouldn’t say no to sharper handling, I’m just scared of ending up with a crashy ride that will spoil the drive!
So my question is this; what are experienced owners thoughts on using mk2 adjustable dampers (koni sport or kyb agx) with FM springs, mk2 top mounts and FCM 36mm bump stops? My thoughts are this will give maybe 20mm lowering over OEM MK1 and sharper handling but the extra travel and improved mk2 top mounts might mean the ride remains composed and not crashy, especially with all the bracing I’m adding.
Any thoughts from those with experience will be much appreciated!
Personally I am not a fan of Poly bushes much prefer Original Equipment rubber a lot more compliant for fast road use and occasional track.
Suspension wise have tried a few over the years many owners are fitting MeisterR fully adjustable for ride height with top mounted thumb screw adjustment from softish to rock hard over 32 clicks, pure bliss depending on your mood they can be changed in a few minutes. Speak to Autolink.
A fast road full geometry set up with a set of all matching tyres is also highly reccomended.
I find Meisters to cope poorly with things like cats eyes no matter what the setting. I much prefer the original P5 Puredrives on my 96 over the Meisters on my 93.
I agree about the poly bushes, had powerflex on an old golf once and hated the harshness! The IL bushes I’m fitting are rubber, not poly, they’re just around 25% stiffer rubber than oem Mazda bushes.
I’ve thought long and hard about coilovers and meister r crds would be my choice but I don’t really need all their adjustments, I’d be happy with one good fixed set up and I’d also be concerned about blowing £750 odd on them to find they don’t ride as well as I like as a good fixed setup.
The P5 puredrives always seem to get great reviews! I wish they were still available as they could’ve been perfect!
I’ve taken the plunge anyway, just ordered Sachs super touring dampers at a very good price, £151 for 4 delivered!
Where did you get the dampers from?
Best regards,
Russ
They’re from buycarparts.co.uk. They had 10% off when I bought on Sunday and sods law (for me) they’ve now got another 5% off until tonight so it’s only £137.62 for 4 dampers until tomorrow night. Absolute bargain!
