My model of MX-5 is: MK1 vvt (originally 1.8)
I’m based near: Stratford upon Avon
I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: IAT install
Morning all
I have a vvt swapped MK1, can’t claim its my own work unfortunately. The car was tuned with the standard maf installed on a me442.
If I was to switch to an IAT would this upset the map? Only interested as want to switch intake system and ditch the bulky maf.
Apologies if this is a dumb question, not got much knowledge around the engine management/ tuning side.
Cheers
Tom
I would ask Bofi racing about it. I think the ecu needs to see iat and air pressure. The me442 has a built in MAP (mass air pressure) sensor. So you can run a vacuum line from a spare port on the intake plenum, through one of the grommets in the bulkhead and into the ecu. Contact us

Ye I’m pretty sure it’s set up through the map vacuum line, well I hope so anyway.
So I believe you can then just run on the iat as the map sensor replaces the maf function.
I’ll get in touch with bofi and see what they think
Or 5Speed. Steve was Phil Dixon’s mechanic at Performance5, did the first VVT swaps in the UK.

Feedback from bofi was that with the setup of a me442 on the map line is that the maf will only be using the air temp and not the mass air flow.
Therefore switching to a temp sensor that is properly calibrated shouldn’t cause any issues
