- My model of MX-5 is: Mk1 1997
- I’m based near: __Alicante Spain
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: _where to purchase a half hood cover. I have seen the one on the _MX5 Parts for the UK but since Brexit I have to pay export duty and delivery charges was wondering if anybody knew where I could purchase one here in Spain for my Mk1 although it’s a very dry area we do get the occasional downpours but more importantly we get a lot of overnight condensation and the car is very wet next morning so thought a roof hood would alleviate the issue of damp getting into the car.
Thanks for any help
But you get it without VAT. I’d be surprised if the import charges are anything more than Spanish VAT (16%) and you always did pay shipping
There are plenty of generic hood covers on amazon.es etc
Just order the smallest one.
eg
The Sumex brand appears on Amazon.es.
The MX5parts item is a generic cover. Its going to have the same problems as any of these, ie where the elastic straps rub the paintwork.
American Moss sell one which appears a better fit from Weatherlock

Moss have a French outlet; I think they have a few different cockpit covers which don’t have as many straps as the MX5parts one.
I looked at the America Moss one and it says
Note: do not leave the cover on while it is raining
Which really defeats the whole idea if its not waterproof and the French outlet says not available so it looks like I’ll have to get a generic one from Amazon.es
Thanks for you help
Any of these half covers are really only suitable for light showers.
They will not stop dew condensation. If you want to keep the car dry, you should buy a proper fitted cover.
Moss UK have at least 2 different versions on special orer.
The generic ine with straps, like the MX5part version, knackered my painwor, but it was reprayed in 2009, so the paint might not be as hard an original, and as an old respray, the marks just add character.
