- My model of MX-5 is: NB-FL (MK2) SVT, 1.8L, in Sunlight Silver (Paint Code: 22V)
- I’m based near: Milton Keynes
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Paint
Background information - I have been performing rust repairs at home, and have pretty much sorted the whole car. The main snag I have has been the final touches of paint.
So I have several questions really:
a) The Inner Boot lid appears to be a grey colour similar to the rest of the inner chassis (as opposed to silver), does anyone have a paint code or recommended paint for use? Otherwise will take a trip to Halfords and pick the closest.
b) Recently used Mx5-Parts Aerosol Spray Paint but it appears to be a slightly different colour, despite being the same paint code. Has anyone else had a similar experience with this? Really noticeable - especially on the Stone-chip.
c) Can anyone recommend any paint shops close to me? It may be easiest to get a professional to blend/re-paint this for me.
Is the difference because they didn’t lacquer the engine bay and bonnet or boot shuts?
I painted my last NC under the boot lid, no lacquer under there so it was dull looking and slightly off colour to the body finish.
Well that was the same problem i had. There are six shades of silver for paint code 22v. . silver is a pig to match i got a spray can made up £15,00 . Took the car to Grove group paint supply to the trade. They have paint cards so they can get a match. My rear O/S quater is way out at some point a ex owner had a respray on her . She will be booked in for a respray on the quater panel . The bodyshop i use said £150 all in .
Sounds normal, I remember my sunlight silver mk2.5 was a grey primer colour on the underside of the bonnet, bootlid, engine bay etc.
Only the bits on show had the metallic silver top coat.
I doubt there is a specific paintcode for the half finished areas, maybe just any light grey would do.
Ended up getting the paint matched for £200 all in at a local spray shop recommended by a friend.
As @BNsilver said, there are quite a few shades of silver for that paint code, and it is also quite difficult to match.
Will do the inner boot lid in the winter as I’m too busy enjoying the sun! Thanks all.
