I looked at a few MK2 MOT historys today and the MOT historay site advised the cars had a recall. I then checked a Mk2.5 and again the MOT history site advised the car had a recall.
The recall was dated 3 November in all cases.
I phoned Barnets in Dundee and the service guy advised that they had just received an email about a new recall campaign for a wide range of older non MX5 cars.
He then looked at the email and advised it was for older cars where the ignition switch can overheat. The list of cars did not include any MX5 cars.
He then checked some reg numbers that I supplied for some MK2’s and he then advised that there was a recall against these cars but there was no details of the specific problem on his system.
There was no recall against any MK3’s or MK1’s from what I could see.
I will have a look at Miata.net which may have some info.

Repeated thermal expansion and shrinkage in use may cause the front fog light socket holder to become detached from the fog light case. As a consequence, an exposed hot bulb may come into contact with part of the vehicle body or fittings.
Remedial Action :
Attach a spring to the rear of the fog light to prevent the socket holder detaching from the fog light case.

Mazda UK have advised the DVLA that there is a new recall on all Mk2 an Mk2.5 cars.
If you go onto the Mazda European Portal, open to non Mazda dealers, that is confirmed when you put in a selection of VIN numbers for MX5’s made between 1999 and the end of the the Mk2.5, mid 2005.
It advises to contact a Mazda Dealer and gives no further information.
Mazda dealers are confirming when given the VIN number of a selection of these vehicles that there is a recall on their dealer system but no details have been uploaded by Mazda as yet.
It would appear from your post that this information has not been entered on to EU system as yet.
Do you have information from Mazda that the recall notification on both the DVLC and the Mazda Dealer system is incorrect. If so where did you get this information.

You could actually try calling Mazda UK.
Rapex is intended as a portal for national authorities to inform other member states of safety-critical consumer issues. It is not a portal for the manufacturers to add data. The UK competent authority is BEIS (Mr Richard Jude, email:rapex.unit@beis.gov.uk, Tel: +44 20 7215 2349). I would suggest that you contact him in the first instance for further information. Because this is authorized through Directive 2001/95/EC, this is pretty much a statutory requirement for any of the national authorities. Mazda UK is a subsidiary of Mazda Germany, so I would imagine Mazda Germany would inform the German representative in the first instance (Herr Andreas DLugi, Dlugi.andreas@baua.bund.de).
The Motoring Ombudsman also has no information. I suggest you either carry out the suggestions, or quit worrying about it. These are all old cars now. Your MX5 is not going to kill you tomorrow. If the recall does exist, its probably Takata airbags (again).
More problems for ND owners? _ If the gearbox don’t get you, well there’s always the active bonnet issue, and to top it off, the car may catch fire - Is that before you suffer the bonnet problem, or after it? (Pending repair - - -)
In my experience it’s not unusual for vehicles to miss recalls; at least I’ve owned at least two that have missed them before I became the registered keeper. One was a BMW (steering column collapsible section possibly rusting out - mine needed changing) and the other was a Volvo, the reason for that escapes me but it was soon picked up by the Volvo specialist who first serviced the car for me.
For example, an ex-owner might have received a letter for a recall but didn’t bother to act on it before he/she sold the car.
I did very recently receive a preliminary warning letter from BMW UK. However, it was some months before a second letter arrived advising me what to do about it and I was already considering selling the car in the meantime. When the further advice did arrive, I acted on it within days because it was with regard to a possible fire risk in heater wiring behind the dash. My car was in fact OK.
Update: Just checked the .GOV.UK website. My very early Mk2 1.8i is definitely affected by the recall (no further info given but it says from today) and it advises me to contact a Mazda main dealer about it. Seeing as my car is SORN’d and I don’t have any plans to tax it until after the winter it might have to wait a good while to be checked/repaired.
Yes, that is the source of the recall warning that I used and advised owners about.
Interesting your car, an MK2.5 is not involved.
It could well be that your car was examined by a Mazda dealer some years ago and either repaired or the issue checked was found not to be a problem with your car.
It could be that my Mk2 and the other selection of similar cars that I checked were not examined some years ago and this is a housekeeping action by Mazda UK to catch cars that were not actively chased at the time.
On Thursday of this week my Impreza passed it’s MOT, that evening I went to the MOT history site to see if it had been updated. It had been, now a week before that when I went to the site to check the MOT date there were no recalls on the Impreza.
On Thursday of this week, there was a recall against my Impreza. A call to the Subaru dealer advised that Subaru are now recalling post 2007 Impreza vehicles for an Air Bag replacement.
This is a very recent recall and has as yet not been communicated to owners but it is now on the UK MOT Government site.
The dealer advised they had only changed the airbags on cars of this age that have come in for service recently and have come up on the dealers standard search on the Subaru Portal.
My car a 2009 Impreza goes in next week for a airbag replacement. Great site as far as I’m concerned and more up to date than the sites other users of this forum are using to track recalls!
