I have a Mk2 Icon that is now starting to show the dreaded rust bubbles on the sills. It’s just got through the MOT today but I’d really like to get this sorted properly. My usual garage is capable but is being honest and saying that it’s really a specialist type of job. I live in Stockport so the companies that usually advertise in the owners magazine are quite some distance away. Does anybody know of, or better yet can recommend, a good bodyshop in the South Manchester/North Cheshire Area that can do this type of work?
If distance is a problem drive there and get a train back on a cheap off peak single. The MX5 doctor near Southampton did mine and they drove me to and from the station.
Another vote for Dan at Welding Corner (now operating independently from Doctormx5).
A long way for you to travel - 10 miles north of Southampton (Botley is nearest railway station) but he knows '5s inside out & back to front, does a proper job - and is a charming guy to boot. ![]()

I’ve never used them, but C B S Autos, Nelson (01282 697413) get good write-ups; not sure if they do their own bodywork, but will know people who do.
^^^ I was just about to mention the above company and also Deepcar Autobodies in Sheffield. I heard only good things about both but never had work done by them.![]()
MX5 city in Doncaster, get the train back and to collect they will do a good job and have reasonable prices. Take a look at their website.
