Mk2 remote locking issues

Hi guys

need some help regarding my remote locking or keyless entry

whatever you’d like to call it

basically I have just got myself a 2002 mx5 which came with the romemote fob. The guy told me that it had just stopped working for him one day but wasn’t sure what was wrong.

the central locking still works when I use the key and the deadlock inside still works

i have tried to sync the fob to the car many times but the whole programming thing doesn’t work on the car (when it locks and unlocks before you sync the key)

is there a fuse for the central locking that could be blown? If so where is it?

or would it be the ECU? Will I need to buy a new one

thanks

liam

It does not need a new ecu.

The locking system is working.

I suggest you contact an auto electrician to get this sorted as you need some kit and some detailed knowledge of the system.

It appears you do not have these ites and it will be lots quicker to get an auto electrician to sort it who has the kit and the knowledge.

.

I know it may sound silly, but have you replaced the fob’s battery yet?

My MK2 came with Laserline remotes but although the light came on on the fob it didn’t seem to do much other than set off an alarm when I fiddled with the buttons, so used the key to central lock.

Recently put a new battery in the fob and suddenly found I not only have decent remote central locking, but it even closes an open window when the lock button is pressed. Result!

Hey drumtochty

im kind of hoping to do it myself as the reason I joined the forums it to learn more about fixing mx5s

but thank you for the help anyway

and andyelcomb

its not the battery Iv changed it a couple times

the ECU isn’t responding to the programming procedure to I can’t sync it that’s my issue

thanks for your help

Hi Liam

You wanted me to advise you about the remote locking on your car - was my £10 charge as you had bought the fob elsewhere, refundable on any purchase too much - a rhetorical question really, lol?

Join the owners club is my free advice.

Not trying to be talking down to you but I believe from what you have written to date, you are out your depth here as you have little idea about how the system works and what systes are concerned.

I will make no more comment on the thread appart from wishing you the best of luck.

What are you on about £10 charge

i didn’t buy the fob elsewhere lol?

Okay thanks man

ill take it to an auto electrition

im okay with cars just never felt with remote locking before and wasn’t aware that it was that complicated

thank you I appreciate the help

Here is a reminder…

New message from:             liamd-24             (130Turquoise Star)

Hey I'm wondering if you could help me I have the fob and everything I need for my car but can't seem to sync it I have an 02 mx5 Thanks for the help
Message sent on ebay via my MX5 remote fob listing.

I sent you the reply that I referred to…or have you sent a lot of emails out and lost track.

By the way LOL is old school - from your communication, way too old school for you:-)

How on earth would I be able to match that up haha

i didn’t say anything about buying the fob elsewhere? I simply asked how to do it to which you replied that you have never owned a Mazda before so couldn’t help

i know what lol means mate just wasn’t aware that people used it anymore

and didn’t know why it was said in the comment as nothing you said was funny?

thanks

Let me remind you of my reply, young man ha,ha

Given the circumstances it was suitably restrained:-)

I have 2 MX5s, the giveaway is in the signature.

Whatever man I can’t really be asked with this ■■■■

i didn’t come into these forums to argue with people I came for help. All I wanted was a bit of help or more of an idea man you must be crazy if think I’m going to give you money in hope that you have the information that I need

Really didn’t want to make enemies on here so sorry for that

and to re answer your question before

i emailed two people regarding help (you clearly being one) id like to say that I am sorry as I quite clearly missed your reply

id like to put this thing behind us?

thanks

I would be crazy to expect you to pay for the information you require?

I can give you this information as sold dozens of fobs for the MX5 and know the remote locking system, its component parts and its problems.

What do you know that is of any use?

OK man, whatever.

it was a fuse

thanks for the help

Don’t thank us for help as completely unwarranted - you appear to have identified a new issue that I have not experienced before.

Please tell us which fuse stopped your remote fob working Liam?

It was the room fuse

fixed my interior light, engine light and remote locking

Room fuse also covers stereo function and central locking. your first post said that the central locking was working?

Room fuse required for central locking.

remote function is parasitic so no individual fuse protection.

Room fuse affects many things Liam - how could you miss no interior lights, no stereo, no diagnostic, no central locking, etc?

I never use interior light, didn’t effect the stereo at all and didn’t effect central locking

room fuse was blown so I changed it and now it’s all working

Finally thanks to Gerryn’s investigation and Robbies circuit diagram, necessary because I can’t get my hands on a MK2.5 car at the moment we have confirmed that removal of the room fuse disables the central locking on the MK2.5 car.

I can only think that Liam considered the use of a metal key to successfully unlock one door as central locking - true function on the MK2.5 is use of metal key in either door lock to unlock/lock both doors and the boot simultaneously.
