mk3 1.8 oil capacity

i changed the oil and oil filter earlier today but seem to have found mixed messages with regards to how much oil is required (the dipstick seems to be rubbish at giving an accurate reading). I’ve seen anything ranging from 4.3l to 4.55l so which is it?

Thanks

Read the hand book

Very helpful

It really depends on how hot the oil is when you drain it, how long you let it drain for, the angle of the car when you drain it. 4.3 litres should do it though. It’s better to underfill it then add some than to overfill it. I appreciate that the dip stick is hard to read. Get the engine up to operating temperature, wait 5 minutes then try and check the level. Push the dip stick straight down and pull it straight out and keep it oriented downwards while reading it. There is a later dipstick available from mx5parts and Mazda which is easier to read.

We’re men, we don’t read instruction manuals

Thank you RR for a civil answer to the OP’s query

yes thank you! so it turned out to be 4.4L to the full mark on the dipstick …

Mine usually takes a little under 4.5l, despite what the handbook says. Interested to hear there’s a more readable dipstick, mine is still tricky (especially with new oil!) even though I’ve roughened it a bit with sandpaper.

Surely its not critical to be 0.1 of a litre up or down ? to much silliness on here at times
