Mk3 2.0 standard exhaust upgrade, which backbox? where from?

Hello everyone,

Joined the club today after chatting with owners club members at Donington Park historic festival.

Had the car 5 weeks and loving every minute out on the road, only thing is though, its quiet, very quiet and even quieter at speed.

At its loudest it sounds like a bee trapped in a curtain.

I’ve been used to this everyday for the last few years…

I’ve had a quick look to see what’s out there back box wise and I’ve got a budget of up to £500.00

What would you recommend? and where would you buy from?

I don’t want completely unsociable noise but I’d like the car to sing when I’m going for gold as it were…

All I’ve done so far is fit a kn panel filter.

Any video clips  or links you could post up would be helpful. Thanks for having me in the club

You will find plenty of clips on youtube, my preference was the IL Motorsport twin s/s box, expensive but top quality and nice sound.

Good luck

Yeah that ones caught my eye

The only problem with the IL Motorsports box is the really high price, one of our Northampton former members had a custom box made by these people for quite a lot less, it sounded great too.

Have today, had a custom stainless steel twin back box with 8x3inch incurl tails fitted at… Longlife Stainless Steel Exhaust c/o ECU Evolution Ltd Unit 3 Hartburn Close Crow lane Ind Est Northampton NN3 9UE tel 01604 268454 email northampton@longlife.co.uk Monday to Sat 9 x 5 manager …

Not sure where you are located but this group have branches throughout the country, worth a try perhaps.

I would be tempted to go this route

This way you lose a cat and a box in the mid section and have a good quality backbox that looks good and sounds nice.

Hope this helps. Regards Vince

MX5 Parts back box, straight through from manifold, deleting 2nd cat (no problems with mot) and 2nd silencer.  Pops on the upshift and occasionally overrun, sounds great through tunnels.  Quiet enough under constant load, really nice when going 3k+ revs.

Just fitted a Cobra back box, sounds nice fitted free at works in Sheffield , £320. Very good quality, show room very impressive with some mega exhausts on display.

I fitted this 3months ago.

Very happy with it, Not too raspy just a nice deep throb when idling, a nice soft baritone when accelerating. Probably not suitable for a Boy Racer.
