Hi All, I am trying to decide what to do with my car and only has 50,000 miles on the clock. It has not been used for a few years and have it on blocks so I can exercise the engine, gearbox, LSD and rear wheels. The gel coat has come off the folding roof and valance and mirrors and the evaporator I believe is no holding AC charge. I have done some modifications;
1. Replaced the exhaust header with one without a cat. This completely changed the performance. The mid section has a 200 cpi cat, so I got a boss welded on on just passed it, extended the sensor lead and refitted the sensor
2. Interestingly, I did try a complete stainless system with no cats, it was way too noisy and needed some back pressure. However got it emissions tested I and it passed. I then sold the mid and rear stainless sections and went back to using the mid and rear original parts.
3. Mine is the sports version with bilstein shocks, unfortunately the front ride height is to high, really needs coilovers to address the ride height
4. As the MK3 was based on the RX8 shortened chassis, I changed the flimsy anti roll bars for a second hand set from an RX8. Now so firm and handles so much better
5. Changed my disc pads to green stuff
6. Changed my panel air filter to a Piper cross filter panel filter.
7. Put large spacers on the rear wheels to make it look more aggressive
8. Undercoated the chassis and injected the box sections as Japanese cars have little rust protection
9. In the boot area I fitted those sticky rubber/ aluminium noise patches to reduce the noise
10. I repositioned the numberplate to a lower position in the front
11. De-badged the car as did not like the chrome
12. Painted wheels black, didn’t like the chrome colour.
Do you think its worth the input to bring back to it full condition. I know it would pass an MOT easily?
Thanks Derek
