MK3.5 Bose - AudioPilot and Mic question

Hi all,

I have a had a look around and i cant find the answers to these 2 specific questions.

  1. If you replace the Mazda headunit with a 3rd party one, doers the Audio Pilot function still work? ( I do not know if this is in the Bose amp that remains or in the Mazda headunit )

  2. If you replace the Mazda headunit, does the Mazda microphone get connected to the new unit, or do you have to install whatever comes with the new unit?

Many thanks if you can help,

Phil.

The Audio Pilot function is in the Bose amp, so if you just change the head unit and you’re keeping the amp then it will still work OK

No the OEM mic is proprietary to the OEM HU, so you will need to install the one that comes with your new HU.  I removed the cover over the instrument cluster (it just pulls up off the clips) and routed the new mic into a similar location to the OEM one and it works a treat.

Superb, thanks Josh !

Can I ask what is Audiopilot?

It’s an option on the bose unit in my.3.5 but I have no idea what it is!

Thanks

Hi Bainbridge,

When you open the catch to fold back the roof, Audiopilot is a set of preset alterations to the sound profile to account of the fact that the car is now driving in convertible mode.

Next time you open your roof catch, listen for the sound to change.

I think it is subjective if you think it improves or worsens the sound.

Hi Phil

Ahh that would explain why the stereo cuts out for a second when I release the roof catch.

Thanks!

It’s actually a bit better than that, in a nutshell, Audiopilot ‘listens’ via the microphone to ambient noise and adjusts the sound from the speakers to cancel the ambient noise out. It adjusts it’s sound field depending on whether the roof is open or closed.
