My model of MX-5 is: MK3.5 MX5
I’m based near: Bristol
I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: retrofitting cruise control
I currently am in the process of obtaining a NC wheel with cruise control (already ordered) and I know on us spec cars it’s pretty easy but how do you do it on European cars, is it something I can do in an afternoon of tinkering on it.
Yes. You shouldn’t need an afternoon, probably 30 mins end-to-end
I put a little write up when I did mine, in my build thread:
I successfully retrofitted cruise control on Tuesday evening. Another job ticked off!
That was one of the compromises going with an SE spec as I do like to use cruise it on longer trips.
It was straightforward in the end. I disconnected battery first and left it a while. While I was waiting I changed my brake pedal switch to the 4-pin version.
Then I removed the wheel and airbag. I swapped in the cruise buttons that I’d picked up from a '5 being broken and then refitted everything.
All teste…
Brake switch I picked up was a Lucas part, but there are many available, e.g.
MAZDA GJ6E66490, L20666490, L23266490, L23266490A. Brake Light Switch SMB953 Lucas. Part Number SMB953. LUCAS CAV SMB953. Housing Colour Black. Type Stop Light Switch. MAZDA 6 Station Wagon (GY) 1.8 Estate Petrol 08/2002 08/2007 FWD 16 120 88.
Cheers,
Steve
Can this be done on the mk3 too [rather than the 3.5]?
I understand it’s a bit more involved on the NC1, but I don’t have precise details.
Ah, thought it might be. Thanks anyway
This is the only option I found for the NC1
Thanks. That looks really good.
I’ll add it to the list of things to buy for my car
