We have finally decided to take the plunge and have put our 2002 Mk2.5 Phoneix up for sale. Problem is I can’t decide whether to go for a Mk3.5 2.0 ltr “hard top” or go for a 1.5 Mk4? I have test driven both and really like the Mk4, only “minor” problem is lack of space for touring in the Mk4 4 and no hardtop option.
just wondering if anybody out there has changed from a mk 3 to a mk 4 (1.5ltr) and could comment as to their views. My perception is that the Mk 3 is more of a"cruiser", and the Mk4 has gone back to the original mk1 ethos, (we had a mk1 prior to getting our Mk2.
Equally if anybody has a decent spec low mileage MK3.5 for sale I could be interested? (If we do go for a MK4 I would probably go to a main dealer).
If you’re not in a hurry, and you’re not too far away, my Soul Red Mk.4 1.5l SE-L Nav will be up for sale towards the end of May with mileage abt. 4500 miles (New 30AE on order).
We have just been round this loop. Really liked our NC3, and had a cracking 2000mls tour in Europe last year (in 8days). But the car is getting on, despite its low miles. We considered:
a) invest in ours and attend to a number of bigger jobs - suspension replacement and some other jobs
in the
b) buy the last of NC3.75 with a hardtop
c) get an ND
We have finalised our decision on the ND, but its not been an easy decision. The main reason we didn’t do (which was our original intention) b), I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted (spec / miles / colour) in the condition I was wanting, and i’m not sure it would have been a step-up on our refurb NC3.
Get the ND in a couple of weeks, and we know we will be tighter for space cabin and the boot - so we need to learn to be just that little bit compact in packing (and not taking too much). The driving experience and modern take on the MX we thought - was worth the trade on space. But this is 2.0 vs 2.0 versions
Hi Coolie and thanks for your feedback. I would be interested to hear how you get on with your ND.
I must admit an ND was always my preferred option, just that I did not want to buy and “early” one, and was a bit put off by the lack of space. However i may just bite the bullet and get the rather obscenely overpriced special boot rack…and I still need to shift my Mk2.5 before I start looking in anger.
There are some good deals to be had on news one, I wasn’t thinking new at all (more 2017 onwards model), but actually squeezed a better deal on one with the wrapper on.
