Mk3.75 AVN2 Radio. No FM tuner?

A strange fault has just occurred…

Everything on my AVN 2 radio works as expected… except the FM / AM radio receiver.

If the FM radio is selected as the source, then the screen displays NO DATA and no audio what so ever is outputted through the speakers. The screen fully freezes,  touch-screen presets won’t work, you cant manually tune the radio frequency and if you try to go back to the USB, Bluetooth or CD source they freeze too.

I can only go back to USB or Bluetooth audio by turning the engine off and back on again. They work fine but as soon as you go back to FM / AM radio, it freezes up again.

Anyone else have any ideas? Looks like the internals for the FM radio has blown and requires a head unit change, unless theres a separate box for the FM receiver ? I haven’t tried another aerial but suspect it would still get at least some signal without an aerial.

Could well be a software problem. The AVN2 is a special version made for Mazda by Alpine. What is special is that lots of functions are disabled like the graphic equaliser. Check out the last post in the thread below for instructions on how to flash it into a full functional Alpine unit. If there’s a software problem that might sort it. Can’t make it worse!

Roadie, thanks for the reply. Ive had a read through the link you’ve sent me, its a very interesting story of the head unit not being sold as advertised I never knew there was such a big fight to get Mazda to I’ve us fully functioning head units.

Im hoping they’ll replace the head unit under warranty. I’ll be annoyed if I’m waiting 2 weeks for the next appointment only for the Mazda dealership to tell me come back later as they dont have any head units in stock, as I can tell them whats wrong now. Dear Mazda… if you’ve no stock I’d be happy to have the original Alpine version fitted.

Has anyone else experienced this? Exact same thing happened to mine last night. Taking the front keys off (where you access the sd card) and turning the engine off isn’t solving the problem, still have no radio.

Any advice - shall I pull the fuse?

Try pulling the ROOM fuse from the box under the bonnet, wait 20 seconds then refit it. You’ll have to re-set the DSC. With the engine running, turn the steering fully one why then fully the other, turn the engine off and restart it, the DSC lights will turn off.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve just sorted it if anyone else has the problem in the future. Just did a factory reset on the head unit. Have to restore the radio presets again, but small price to pay.

Just had this exact same problem on our 25th Anniversary Edition. Followed the advice above and pressed the factory reset behind the removable security thingy. All good again, just need to re-pair phone etc. I guess.

Fantastic my 2014 Sport Venture Nav just did the exact same thing sorted with a press of the re set button thanks all
