Mk3 ABS Pump help please

  1. My model of MX-5 is: MK3 (NC)
  2. I’m based near: Belfast
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: ABS Pump

Hey folks.

Can anyone help me find a replacement ABS pump for my 2006 2.0 NC? It recently failed MOT as brake pressure at the rear was poor. The calipers were all rebuilt in January, braided lines installed and new fluid added. When it failed MOT the rear calipers were removed and checked with no issues found. A new caliper was also bought but didn’t help. My Mechanic feels it may be something failing within the ABS pump and suggested a replacement.

Do all mk3 ABS pumps work, and do they need coded?

There are quite a few numbers on the pump so I’m not sure which is the right part number. I’ve 0 265 234 370 and also NE55 43 7AO. The second code seems to differ on a number of pumps that I’ve seen for sale which makes me wonder if I absolutely have to find one which matches that.

Thanks
Steven

ABS Pump

When I had an ABS fault on a BMW motorcycle several years ago, I used ecutesting.com , who rebuilt the unit with a lifetime guarantee for about £250, compared to buying new at close to £2000. If you check out their site, if your own unit is rebuilt, it shouldn’t need recoding. I recall having the unit returned within the week from sending it to them. No connection with the company other than being a satisfied customer.
There are of course several other companies to be found, who offer similar services.

Hhmm, ABS pump fault on a Mazda… Not saying it isn’t at fault but in my 30 years around Mazdas I’ve never known one to give trouble. Are you sure that the diagnosis is correct? What was the actual failure? The assembly consists of 2 parts, the hydraulic unit and the ECU.

I’ve never known an abs pump go faulty and reduce rear braking pressure , the ones I’ve known fail have been triggered all the time making a buzzing noise with abs warning on .

Funny, I used to own a Mazda 3 where the ABS pump would have randomly buzzed/rattled and thrown a light on the dash, but it always managed to reset itself for a few months by switching the engine off and restarting.

I can’t figure out what else the issue would be though if not the pump. The hard lines have been checked and new braided lines at the ends. New fluid and calipers are fine. Could it be the master cylinder?

If it was a fault with the ABS pump I’d have guessed it was the hydraulic unit itself as it’s only affecting one of the rears? If it was the ECU would it not affect all the braking? Any used parts for sale include both anyways.

As a general rule an ABS unit will fail safe allowing full pressure to all brakes. Maybe one on the valves in the hydraulic unit has failed half open. It’s not impossible.

This is a 2007 1.8 NC ABS pump.

I do not know which number is the part number but it fits a NON Sport model.

Have you tried holding the brake pedel down before starting and feel the pedel depress as the vac boost kicks in?

If no depression happens its the booster thats faulty.
