Has anyone done anything with the centre console arm rest cubby.
It really is a waste of time, asbolutely nothing other than a packet of gum will fit in it.
I’ve seen the ‘MX5 Parts’ conversion but it’s expensive for what it is.
mine has two cup holders in there… Use them all the time tbh
OK, maybe i forgot to mention that it will actually hold cups.
But a set of keys, BT GPS receiver, or packet of mints would be nice.
I do however agree with you, Its pretty much useless for holding any thing else…
I agree, most phones won’t fit in that console cubby. I fitted the cubby conversion and could then put the X-link in there (shown) including my phone.
Agree they are not cheap but I got mine off this very forum at good price secondhand.
Plus the fact, why 4 cup holders in a 2 seater car?? You can’t exactly use the cup holders in the centre console whilst driving either, my left elbow needs that room.
I have noticed that the biggest part fouling any room is actually the latching mechanism on the sliding cover, this coupled with the fact that the two cupholder compartments only have a diameter of about 2 inches.
Maybe, i’ll takle the console out and have a clearer look to see if anything can be achieved.
^^^ The Mk2.5 individual centre cup holders were just as useless, I never used them.
Did mine yonks ago, it really is one of the best internal mods that can be done on the Nc…apart from the intermittent wiper stalk…
The wiper stalk mod would be a waste of time for me.
I don’t intentionally go out in the rain, so that feature it might get used once per year.
Same here on that one, but I found it very handy on the odd occasion when we did get caught out and it was a cheap buy anyway.
Also done the centre console mod. Well worth it IMHO. I replaced the included 12V Cigarette lighter output with a 2 x USB charging port off eBay for phones etc.
I’ve wired a 4 port USB hub behind the dash with Audio DAC, connected to the Media port on the radio, so i’ve no shortage of USB’s
I understand they have 4 cup holders because two are for cups, the others for bottled water. I never use them or cups anyway, the one in the drivers door holds sunglasses and a duster which, apart from wiping windows and dusting the facia, it prevents the specs from rattling and jumping out when the door closes. Must admit the centre console ones are next to useless other than for house keys and a packet of polos. The cubby box conversion sounds like an idea worth looking into.
I saw something on one of the US forums, where the guy removed the cup holder, and actually cut out the curves, replacing them with some sort of plastic sheet.
It looked complicated, and quite possibly prone to disaster or collapse later down the line.
So I guess it’s either the £85 MX5-Parts one, or live with it.
Personally, I don’t value this mod at £85.
