Mk3 Exhaust Quieter Option?

Recently bought another NC2 after missing my first one so much, loving it so far (besides a pesky central locking issue!). However the car has a custom Tony Banks backbox on it which, although brilliant sounding, is too loud for the kind of long(ish) drives I do often.

I thought it might be a simple case of bolting on a used OEM baackbox on the car, but today I had a look and noticed the resonator has also been deleted by whoever fit this exhaust setup. So it’s straight from the cat to the backbox.

What are my options? Will it be hugely irritating having an OEM backbox without the resonator? Don’t necessarily want to chop through the existing pipe and use the resonator repair piece from mx5 parts if possible.

I would put a second hand resonator back on and see what it sounds like then. No resonator might be the main problem.

My resonator box has been replaced with a stainless steel silencer of the same size and does the job.
