Mk3 facia panel removal

2006 Mk3 2.0 - What’s the procedure to remove the facia panel and the small section on the driver’s side ?

Do you mean the audio panel? The triangle side panels just pull towards the rear of the car to remove. They expose 1 screw either side of the audio panel, remove those. There may or may not be a 10mm head screw at the side of the audio unit, just visible from looking from the driver’s foot well (remove the steering colum under cover to improve access). The audio unit the pulls out. Unplug electrical connectors (audio and heater control) as you remove it.

I was hoping the radio panel doesn’t need removing although it probably will. All I need to remove are the Piano black facias with the eyeball vents.

Unfortunately there are two screws behind the radio fascia so it has to come out.

It’s been about 4 years since i removed and painted mine.

Before you do anything invest in trim removal tools, about £4 e-bay.

Lower the glove box and take it out.

Feel up behind the fascia and find a bolt/screw, i think there was only one, remove that and then using the trim tools ease the fascia off.

I  don’t think there was a screw in the small one, i might be wrong but i think it just eased off with the tools.

Thanks. I ordered a set of trim removal tools this afternoon.

By the way…I like the bling mesh panel you have. Is it an insert or the whole thing ?

Try this link for the Mazda instructions on how to change the fascia panels.

Oh yes, you will have to remove the quarter panels, they pull forward with a good tug!

Then remove the radio fixing bolts and ease the radio forwards.

Be careful when you pry it out as you can easily dent the dashboard and it can leave an annoying little imprint. I did this on my previous car!

The bling/mesh is or was £5 a sheet from most car shops made from ally, sheet is about 1mtr x 500mm and can be cut with scissors.

Make a paper template of the grille shape and cut it to fit. use double sided number plate tape and stick it on the wind blocker, secure it with tie wraps for a couple of days while it ‘sticks’, then finish it off with 3mm chrome strip.

Job done for about £12.

Looks very professional. That’s another little job to add to the never ending list

Quick question on this as I fancy changing the colour of my own fascia.

While it’s out are the two centre eyeball air vents interchangeable with the outer type? By that I mean is it possible to change the two centre ones that don’t push/close for two of the outer types that do have that function?

Yes, but they do advise not fitting closed vents to all four.
This is to allow unrestricted air flow around the cab when the roof is up.
