Hi for my first post.
I just bought a lovely red Mk3. Compared to my previous Jasper Conran Mk2 which was trimmed out in leather, this Mk3 interior is almost entirely plastic (black). Any thoughts, experiences, tips on how to make this less of an Austin Metro experience.
Hiya, the dash Decor panels, piano black on yours I presume, can be painted, wrapped, hydro dipped or just swapped out for a different colour to brighten things up a bit. Handbrake sleeve and gear gaiter can be bought in different colour leather to lift things there too! Plenty of chrome accents also available such as vent balls/surrounds door cup upper and lower trims, door lock cups, door handle times etc. You could even have your seats and door cards re upholstered in a colour of your choice. Plenty of options out there.

There’s an aftermarket cubby box and lid that replaces the whole centre cup holder. Makes it much more useful. MX5 parts website has them.
Yes there is a lot of black plastic and if it is dull and grey or too shiny then it doesn’t look good.
Search eBay for ‘pink sheen’. Gives the black plastic a really nice finish and disguises small scuffs and scratches.
Get it looking it’s best then you will have a better idea of what needs changing or adding to suit your eye.
On the centre area when i bought my Mx5 it came with a rubber padded armrest which just snuggly fits on top with the slider bit left opened. Makes driving so much more comfortable. Thought it was standard until i started seeing cars without one.
