Have a question about my sparekey when I went to use it last week I noticed when I pressed any of the buttons I have four on the fob I didn’t see the red light working and the central looking or boot wouldn’t work of it but the key will start the car ect so today I replaced the CR 1620 battery ant the red light is working again but it still won’t work the central locking ect so I’m looking for a solution any ideas ?
Has it ever worked as there are three different makes of remote and only the correct make and model number of remote will work with your car.
If you separate the remote fob and key from the one that works what make is the remote fob and what make and model is the spare remote fob.
If the smae you have to go through the learning process for the remotes do a google search to leanr how to do it.
I’ve never known if it has worked as I’ve only owned the car since December I’m afraid to take the good one apart but this spare one unlocks the doors with the key and it starts the car just a shame the buttons don’t operate the central lock ok by and boot
Sounds like the right key so the remote may just have lost communication if the battery was flat a while.

Ah, yours should be that one, but here are 2 more sequences you can try, very similar, I did the Mazda 6 one for a friend and it works fine,

Miata 2003
Remove key from ignition.
Close all doors.
Open driver side door and leave open.
Perform the following steps within 24 seconds.
a. Insert key in ignition.
b. Turn key to ON and OFF.
c. Repeat step b two more times.
d. Remove key.
e. Push driver door frame button three times (black rubber button located on driver door frame that tell the vehicle whether or not door is closed.)
5. Buzz sound, chime or doors will lock and unlock should be heard at this point signaling that the vehicle is now in
programming mode. If not, wait 40 seconds and return to step 4.
6. All transmitters need to be programmed at this time, including the old ones. Push any button on the transmitter
two times. A buzz sound, chime or doors locking and unlocking should be heard at this point signaling that the
vehicle has accepted the new transmitter code. If there is only one transmitter, repeat this step two more times
using the only transmitter. If there are two transmitters, repeat this step two more times using the second
transmitter.
7. Push driver door frame button one time. Two buzz sounds, chimes or doors locking and unlocking 2 times should
be heard at this point signaling successful programming.
I’ll try that tomorrow and let you know I did take a look inside the key fob its got a Mitsubishi logo with numbers then but will have a look tomorrow the battery has been flat for a long time
Just had exactly the same problem myself. The procedure below worked for me on the second attempt. Didn’t work first time as I removed the key from the ignition after ‘step 4’. That’s why I’ve added a ‘step 4a’
Just followed the instructions and all now working only issue I had was after about 20seconds the car would automatically lock itself
My recently acquired Roadster Powershift came with two remote key fobs only one of which was working. Swapped out what I assumed was a dead battery, gently tweaked the connections when it still didn’t light up when pressed, then followed the procedure posted by Rich M above. I now have two fully working remote key fobs.
Great forum, guys. Thanks for all the advice.
That’s normal if you don’t open a door after unlocking it. It assumes you’ve unlocked it accidentally or got distracted after unlocking it and gone to do something else…
I know it’s an old thread but just found this after assorted keyfob issues (one stopped working and the other had a missing battery - not my doing!).
Programmed both keyfobs at the same time on my 07’ 1.8 nc and it worked a treat.
Huge thanks! Aren’t forums great!
Cheers,
Martin.
