Does anyone know how to remove the rear view mirror in a mk3?
See Fig 74 right at the end of the Mellens Windows Mirrors pdf
Thanks for the reply. However, my mirror isn’t the same as in the diagram - see photo.
Oh dear, the photo didn’t work unfortunately. The ‘insert image’ button doesn’t work as I expected. I’ll have another go.
OK, I’ve now found how to insert an image (someone needs to redesign this forum to make it easier!)
As you can see, there appear to be a couple of silver clips, but they don’t seem to move when I press them. Any ideas?
You just need to be a bit more brutal!
I’ve just taken mine off (2008 NC) in about half a minute, it’s the same as yours. I used two 3mm dia ‘tweakers’ (small screwdrivers) for a balanced leverage.
There is a central ramp-catch moulded into the plastic of the mirror housing, this stops it siding up the metal plate glued to the screen. There is a U shaped piece of wire spring (the ends of which are the ‘clips’ you can see) that engages the wedges either side on the metal bit glued to the screen.
Gently lever the lower part of the mirror housing just far enough away from the screen to release the catch while sliding the mirror up the screen. It goes dead easy once released.
Be careful not to scratch the screen.
EDIT
Added picture of the mirror fitting
and the screen plate
Spot on RichardFX. A bit of brute force worked just as you suggested. Many thanks - happy days
