Looking to have the AC re-gased on a MK 3 NC 2006. Does this model have the older R134a gas or the newer R1234 gas? Groupon has a deal via ATS but apparently ATS can only work with the older gas. Thanks
Not sure but I did my 2008 car in December 2017 and it only lasted for a few months. My similar aged Impreza is still working after 2 years from the aircon fill.
The issue is you need to remove the front undertray and that is a pain even on a 2 post lift to check for leaks.
Let’s hope your car works for longer. Have a look in the engine bay for a label, there is one in there re aircon.
would have originally been filled with R134a - there should be a label on the aircon pump. As advised worth looking for a recharge label as it may have been recharged with a drop in replacement gas.
In any event a professional should recharge with dye to make finding any leaks possible.
I took mine to Kwik-Fit when it needed re-gassing 2 years ago as they had an offer on. No problems at all, a big improvement in the cooling effectiveness & 2 years on it’s still good.

They should “suck” out any existing fluid first, then do a vacuum test for leaks, if leak free they will re-gas it
That’s the problem, the “Vacuum Test” is not that good at finding slow leaks.
You need a pressure test for that as the pressure test tends to pull the joints apart while the vacuum test will pull the joints together and tends not to show some leaks.
I’m not sure at all that the normal units your local garage has to recharge the systems can do a pressure test to the pressure required. Never looked at the units.
