Can anyone help me with how to adjust the handbrake on the mk3? I’ve done plenty of this on a mk1 in my time and there’s plenty on the forum covering Mk1 & 2 but I can’t find anything on the Mk3 except a pad replacement guide that doesn’t say how to adjust the lever… My wife’s mk3 handbrake only holds when the lever is pulled up to about its maximum travel. In the mk1 I’d tighten the calipers and adjust the lever screw at the base of handle but can’t see anything similar on mk3. Any ideas?
Don’t know the answer to your question I’m afraid, but it’s worth noting that the Mk3 handbook (section 5.6) says:
"Setting the parking brake
Depress the brake pedal then firmly pull the parking brake lever fully upwards with a greater amount of force than is required [my italics] so that the vehicle holds in the stationary position."
This slightly odd wording seems to suggest that the handbrake lever should be pulled somewhat harder (and thus a little further) than one might normally expect, in order to be effective.
NC handbrake is self adjusting, just adjust the free play up on the cable. Remove the handbrake lever boot (lifts up from the centre console) to access the adjuster nut.
