Mk3 Paint Correction

Happy New Year all

Car related Christmas present from the wife this year which was great! a full paint correction on my Mk3 Sport in true red.

the car is just over 10 years old and being a solid red paint there is some fading on the rear high level light and serious swirl/scratches from previous owner. I’m looking forward to the results,

has anyone here had there MX5 in for a paint correction and were the results noticeable?

Yes.
And Yes.

(any excuse to post pics of shiny things )

The day I had paint correction/detail on my True red sport

I tried all manor of stuff to try and get out those swirls and deep scratches, nothing would touch it.

Time to call on the experts, I had a chap come to the house and he spent all day with his kit and what a great result, money well spent.

Both look minted!

The only part I’m annoyed about is the lower regions of the front bumper have severe road rash. Is this worth being corrected by a reparations first or will a paint correction help to mask it slightly?

It all depends how fussy you are about your car. There’s only so much they can do with a machine polish and the thin paint on these (so I’m told) it will never restore paint missing.

My sills (the plastic covers) have road rash, no amount of polishing will make them better. I only found out when I removed them how pitted they are, mainly at the front sections, they catch the muck off the tyres and I have mud flaps fitted. I thought at some point I’ll have them painted but they look ok as is, unless you get on your hands and knees for a close up.

This pic was taken earlier last year, over 2 years since the paint correction was done, still holding up well. I do keep it looking good with plenty of TLC and covered up when not in use. The boot lid seemed to have come off worse for swirls and scratches.

Thanks for this.

It’s my bonnet that’s the worst and the paint is really rough on it as well.

Maybe worth a respray as I plan on keeping it for as long as I can.

I think once it’s done I’ll be purchasing this new meguairs ceramic spray that comes to the UK in march to seal the paint

You want ChrisRS for expert advice about your paint and care of it, he will most likely be along later.

I ended up with a complete vinyl wrap. Front end of car was quite stone chipped (front edges of wings/bonnet and front bumper)

BBS Rims looks great!

does the Vinyl Wrap not show up any imperfections on the bumper caused by the chips etc? or do these get sanded down before wrap applied?

Thanks! Good point on the wrap, never having done anything like that before and I (thought) the wrap might cover blemishes. It doesn’t, the work involved in prepping is the same as a paint job? TBH though, I got rid of the number plate plinth, all badges etc so had some filling and priming anyway. The front bumper was fully in primer and the vinyl adheres extremely well to this, as it does to all the bodywork. Been finished about 9 months now and is standing up really well indeed. I had ll the paint swirls etc on the original paint as well as chips, but now it’s like new again. The colour, Cardinal Red, is as near as I could get to true red and is a pretty good match.

Most folk don’t think the red colour is actually a vinyl wrap, now the fake carbon is another story!

this was mine after a paint correction the guy that did it said somebody had tried before and made a mess of it it but it came up well it was with him 3 days

looks brilliant, can I ask about your ducktail spoiler for the PRHT. hard to find one as I think the boot lids are slightly different from the soft top

Ive done a few Paint corrections on mk3’s and Ceramic Protection on a couple as well as my ND

And mine too:

they are different I do have that one in my garage but it needs repainting (I have changed the boot lid

hi ChrisRs
do you do the paint work yourself or use someone else?
thanks
