My first post. I have a mk 3 2009 roadster. Regularly serviced. Problem came out of the blue this week when trying to open the electric roof there’s no response to the button to make it open. Jammed shut. The roof indicator light on the dashboard is flashing red. Everything else is working fine (apart from the engine management light which as been on for some time due to minor issue with a sensor in the exhaust so I’m told.) Any ideas?
Do both your windows go up and down normally? The first thing that happens when you press the roof down button is the windows drop a bit, if this doesn’t happen the roof wont move. The pcb with the window switches on is known to cause problems. Does the red light flash any pattern? Maybe it indicates a fault code. There is a microswitch in the roof latch mechanism, maybe this is playing up and not telling the electronics the latch has been released. The roof control electronics is behind the removable panel behind the passenger seat, Check for damp and the connections to this.

Is the boot shut completely? This is the usual problem.
Yup, start with the boot, even if it is shut tight, open and shut it again. If the module that controls the roof thinks the boot is open then it stops the roof from operating.

Hiya, sorry to hear you’re having issues. First off,you have a mk3.5 (NC2) although I don’t think much difference with roof. Have a read through this, not the same issue but when I had problems, members offered great advice/links. There may be something useful for you.

Thanks to all for your prompt suggestions. After my post this morning I got around to using my OBD reader to clear the minor exhaust fault code and turn off the engine management light. To my surprise the electric roof then started working normally again, although no error code showed up on the OBD reader. So not sure why, as I haven’t touched the boot lid, but very pleased. In future I shall be keeping the reader in the boot just in case.
The roof fault would have shown up wirh a Mazda Code Reader.
I think around £2,000. So you have had a lucky excape on that one.
You can download the Mazda diagnostic software to a PC, not a Mac laptop and get a three day hire from the Mazda portal if it happens again.
