I’m considering getting the steering wheel re-trimmed so that it has a thicker rim and has thumb rests.
Rather than use mine, basically it’s in as new condition, I was considering getting one 2nd hand and using that instead… Just a couple of questions.
From what I can gather a basic 06 wheel is exactly the same as 2012 wheel?
If I get one without the cruise control buttons etc. I assume that the controls and wiring from my existing wheel will directly swap over without any issues?
Yes, I did the same thing. I bought a mk3 wheel and sent it away for refurb then when it came back swapped my switches over and fitted it to my mk3.5, no problems at all.
Depending on who you are getting to do your wheel some can just add the cost of a wheel or hold a deposit until you send them your one after you’ve got the refurbished one, I got mine from Guardian Design and he does that.
Thanks ‘flyer’, you pretty much confirmed what I already knew. Always best to be on the safe side though and check .
It seems like the best two options are to go with Guardian or Royal Steering Wheels. I’m leaning towards the later as they are uk based. Nothing wrong with guardians wheels though. There are some really nice retrims on Miata forum.
Got this for my NC1 from Guardian and it’s a NC2 wheel with the cruise controls. Means if I upgrade to a later model NC I can take it with me. Cruise controls don’t work, obviously, but switches light up when the lights are on.
