Mk4 1.5 MPG

Hi all this car is still on it’s first tank of fuel Lol anyway I filled her up costing £42      37 litres anyway I’ve got half a tank left and I’ve done 265 miles on a flat run I’m average 56-58 mpg wow so what do new owners of these 1.5 mk4 range on full tank as I’m impressed and only drove half a tank so far wicked

The best I got on a quiet run was 70. My average is currently 51.5 mpg.

Hi mal yeah great figures on these and as it’s my every day car even better especially changing from 3.0 z4 lol

For a moment…I thought…Mk4 1.5 MPG …shocking!

I was going to suggest taking it out of 1st gear.

I’m currently on about 48mpg. Usually I fill up when the tank gets to a quarter and by then I’ve usually done about 320 miles.

Currently on 47.6 over 12000 miles, it’s been on a motorway once as the only way to get between two sets of better roads near Glasgow

These figures would seem to be a good advert for Mazda’s SKYACTIV engine technology.

My wife and I have had two MX-5s, spread over some six years, and the first one (my wife’s company car) was an NC 2.0L Powershift, which rarely did better than 32 mpg going back and forth to Bristol every day for work (about 25 miles each way), although it did return 34 mpg when we took it to France on holiday.  Our latest steed, a 2.0L manual transmission car, has just done 37 mpg on its latest tank-load (333 miles), after only averaging around 34 mpg on previous fill-ups.

Question: are all these figures for 1.5L NDs ?  And what is the performance actually like ?  Can anyone post figures for 2.0L NDs ?

I think a lot of people will be simply astounded at these figures (I am), but if we’re lucky, this could be a sign of things to come, with ever improving engine technology.

My journeys are very short, no more than 6 miles in each directions at most on a mixture of roads from dual carriageway to narrow country lanes and I’m getting around 45mpg in my 1.5l ND.

Our 2.0L ND is averaging 48mpg using the brim to brim method. We do very little short or urban driving.

I did a 145 mile round trip in my ND 2ltr Sport Nav yesterday and averaged 44mpg (mixture of motorway and country roads)

Very pleased with the cars performance and petrol consumption.

I regularly get low 50’s from my 1.5 on my 18 mile commute to and from work on country roads M5/A38 into Filton Bristol. More spirited driving can drop it to mid 40’s. You can make good progress in 6th even with the relatively low torque available. I think the low weight and skinny 195 tyres also help the 1.5.

My average since new (20 months and 16,000 miles) is 54.5. Mixed driving on country roads and the occasional long run on dual carriageways. Best was 62 (probably not accurate - tank not really full at top up time). Other than driving style, the biggest influence on economy seems to be weather - especially low temperature. Very happy bunny …

I have the 2.0 Sport Nav and am averaging 40.1 at the moment - the economy is excellent and far better than i anticipated!

Just as a pointer, 70mph on the motorway in 6th gear is less than 3000 rpm. Not pushed it on the road but did close to 90 at castle combe race circuit last year and there was bags more to come. Not bad for a 1.5.

As far as I’m aware…NDs have rev limiters!

Quite astounding fuel consumption figures for the NDs - I’m sure all you owners must be over the moon.

Is this mostly with the roof up? I’ve averaged 42.3 over 3,000 miles. But that is roof down most of the time - and I’m happy with that.

Roof down most of the time except when sub-zero or precipitation threatening. Little use of aircon but heated seats get a fair bit of use .

Just finished my first tank £42 to fill up at 1.13.7 p litre to and from work and around town longest journey 13 miles each way 420 miles = over 50 MPG
