I admired the Mk4 at Oulton Park. Checking out the specifications the ideal car
would be the SE spec but with a 2 litre plus LSD but one cannot configure
such a MX5, so a SE-L 2litre seems a sensible choice, apart from the Bilsteins the
rest of the Sport spec does not interest me. (I can always change to Bilsteins or
whatever).
Colours offered; Soul Red very smart, 3 whites!!! why 3??? The other colours belong
on family saloons, Suv’s
I want some vibrant colours, for example California Yellow, Winning Blue.
I have written to Mazda UK on this subject. If anybody else agrees then let’s
start a campaign, now.
Keith
Mazda UK responded to my recent letter “In view of your comments I can advise you that I have forwarded your letter on to our product department, who will feed your views to our design department. This is not the first time we have received comments regarding our product colours and we are always grateful to receive feedback from our customers.”
“Thank you for taking the time to write to us and trust that we may be able to produce a better colour mix to suit your needs in 2016.”
I am sure that if more people wrote to Mazda UK the pressure may well result in some vibrant colours.
Even if you are not buying a MK4 in 2016 but plan to buy a used MK4 in the future & fancy more colour choices then get typing!!
Are the colours on that page ones that are available to buyers in other countries?
If so, why not here?
And yes I’d join in a campaign. Even though I can’t afford to buy a new Mk4 now, I’m sure I’ll get a second hand one in a few years! Sunflower yellow would be good…
I totally agree! 3 shades of white is over kill! I have pre ordered so went for soul red but I really wanted was British racing green to match my mk1. My guess is choice is very limited to give future scope like in years time the special addition featuring British racing green!
It appears that Mazda are offering much the same boring colour pallet in other countries as they are here. Go on other Mx5 sites and they are more or less saying the same there as we are here. Mazda are supposed to have consulted us so its hard to understand why we have the choices we have? It’s almost unfathomable that we have to wait years for a white NC3 in the UK and now we have three whites for the NC4!
Sad really that Mazda can produce such an interesting little roadster, that may attract additional buyers who aren’t already hooked on MX5’s into it, then do their best to kill the interest from that market share with such a limited and somewhat uninspiring selection of colours.
Shame they couldn’t have watched the recent Classic Car Rescue and the colour pallet they debated for the Aston Martin. If they had gone with those I don’t think any of us would have been grumbling the way we are now…
I have deliberately NOT ordered for two reasons, firstly the possible cabin space which I cant get in one to try and secondly Mazda UK’s insistence to stick to its normal ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’.
After some digging in the past it turns out that Mazda UK choose from a selection and decide (to a certain degree) what cars and colours should be available in the UK market. This was the reason the Yellow never made it to the UK on the MK3 and yet was available in the US and Japan.
To balance things out It was also the reason we got the Black edition with that lovely green…
Apart from some and not all of the members of this club and some motoring journo’s.
Most people do not know if the car is front wheel drive or rear wheel drive and do not have a scooby do about the 50/50 weight distribution.
Loads of people will buy on colour or some other feature of the car including the smallest deposit needed or “free servicing” or “free road tax” or they live up an icy hill and buy an Audi TT spider because of the 4WD in the winter.
Apart from people with fixed ideas about what a “Sports Car” should be like, that’s you and you especially are well aware of the continuing drop in sales of the MX5 from inception apart from a year after the intro of a new model there are drop top Audi’s, VW, Vauxhaul, Ford. I think Volvo, Mini, BMW, Merc etc
The worst thing you can do in choosing a car is to go to one manufactuer as you are limited by their choice of what to put on the market.
There are loads of drop tops in the market and when I come to change out my MK3, I will not only test drive the offerings from Mazda but take a grown up view and give the market a chance and you never know, I may well prefer a change!
Sorry bk we re not here to only say nice things about the MX5.
I only tell the truth and will always advise on the good and bad points like the terrible rust problems on the older cars.
If you want to live with blinkers on that’s just fine but if you want to post on the forum expect the truth to come out and stop being a Mazda “Fan Boy”.
Yes my MK2 has had the rear arches and sills rust out and also needs new chassis rails but others will say do not publicise that and only say to new members who are about to pay £2k for a MK2 that there are rust issues do not publish pictures and costs of fixing it before they look at a car.
As you may put them off, well better forearmed is what I believe.
Like any company Mazda are here to make a buck nothing else!
For the avoidance of doubt, I have no real worry at all if the club membership numbers go up, down or stay the same.
Surely most cars are going to need TLC if they cost you a couple of grand? Rusty sills/chassis rails or otherwise, at this level (regardless of make) you have to accept there will be remedial work of some description needed at some point.
But if you’re spending 20k or more on a brand new car then you’d expect a better paint palette to choose from, and I’m glad to see that Mazda UK at least know how to respond positively to this needlessly contentious debate…
