I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __I’ve got most of the moss off my soft top hood, but there are some stubborn bits at the bottom of the hood. Any ideas on how to remove?
You do not say what you have tried already, a couple of years ago I bought an otherwise good condition hood with some moss on. Used warm water and a gently applied scrubbing brush that got most of it off, for the really stubborn bits I used warmer, but not boiling, water let is soak for a bit and applied more pressure with the brush. Washed the whole thing with Glyn soft top cleaner afterwards and the job was a good un. Good luck.
Hi,
Thanks for your reply, yes i used Glyn soft top cleaner as well I got most of it off, but not the stubborn bits at the bottom. The only difference is , that i used cold water perhaps i can try with hot water (not boiling) might work?
Also when you get to that lower section, you’ll need to open/unlatch the roof, to allow access to the bottom area of the roof, where it meets the body.
If the roof hasn’t received regular care and cleaning, you’ll see there’s probably a fair bit of work to do in that area
Mine is an ND but I presume the process is the same for them all so also clean around and under the main rubber seal. Mine was filthy and accelerated the return of the green gunk as I had neglected the seal the first few times I did the roof.
I started using dilute Miĺton to sterilise water pipes in the caravan, but an article in a magazine warned against it as Milton does contain bleach.
Wine vinegar was recommend instead.
I think that is the whole point of using Milton. The bleach in it kills the moss. It’s safe enough (and promoted as such) for Babie’s bottles and things over all these years. Just obviously need thorough rinsing down.
If my MX5 was a soft top, I’d be reluctant to use any product containing bleach.
My choice would be a caravan cleaner to treat moss, mould and lichen. These are not harmful to plastics, rubber or acrylics and are very effective on awnings…
