MOT and MOT check websites discussion

I think it is interesting to use these websites whether it be…

MOT History

or

Vehicle stats

The former covers the last 10 years whereas the latter reaches further back in time making it more useful with an elderly MK1/MK2 for example.

These are excellent tools to use for an idea of the quality of a vehicle and an insight into its ownership. They also publish mileage so given that a lot of people are now aware of the government MOT history website in particular, clocking of vehicles over 4 years old should completely stop.

I see this as an incentive to perhaps care more for a vehicle and take advisories or possibility of advisories more seriously. Given hindsight I imagine a number of MK1 - MK2.5 owners would have taken rust a little more seriously before associated advisories/MOT failures became public knowledge.

On the negative side though it is probably the end of witty banter advisories that were entertaining on occasion.

This site looks simple, but its incorporating some serious analytics in the back end, to forecast car values. Looks like they are incorporating machine learning into it. Its starting to pull in a lot of data, so that eventually you will also be able to track a car’s sale history.

The headline mileage is off, but the mileage in text is almost spot on. And yes, MOT’d before the £1000 service.

Who is behind vehiclestats.co.uk is a bit mysterious. Their revenue seems to be just betting ads. Or is there something else. It might be pulling in data on queries about particular cars. That might be used to forecast demand for particular vehicles.
