MOT brake test

I put my Nevada in for its MOT this week. All was well.

However I am a bit puzzled about what the brake test results mean. Can anybody enlighten me, please?

I am concerned about the anomalous reading on Front Right of 333kgf. A new caliper was fitted on the Rear Right a year ago.

Should I do anything to forestall a problem?

# = lock Left ( kgf) Right (kgf) Imbalance % Efficiency %
Front Service Brake 206# 333# (50) 18 (61) 44
Rear Service Brake 201# 205 (73)19 (59) 33
Total Service Brake 407 538   78

Parking Brake 187# 187   31

Thanks but it’s still clear as mud!

I’ve had both front and rear Right (offside) brake calipers changed on my 2002 Mk2.5 - both locked up at different intervals. My local garage remarked that it’s linked to other makes, which appear to suffer this problem, which he describes as ‘odd’, but says it’s common. He also said “You would expect the nearsides to fail first, due to all the crap in the gutters, but it happens to the offsides first”.

I would suggest you do the same, get that low reading caliper changed a.s.a.p. - before it locks up.(or off)
Uneven rear braking can lead to all kinds of handling problems, so avoid them now. Also - are your disks O/K?
worn discs can be another source of uneven braking, surprised the tester didn’t make any comment about the uneven brakes. A raised edge on the disk can indicate wear, the higher the ridge, the worse the wear. Front discs usually suffer first, but that depends on how you drive.

There doesn’t seem too much to worry about there. The difference in the fronts are mainly due to the weight of the tester in the driver’s seat. Your OSR didn’t lock and you said the caliper was replaced a year ago. We’re the pads replaced at the same time? If not the pads might be glazed from the binding caliper. Have you got the same tyres on the rear axle and were the pressures the same? If a tyre had slightly lower pressure it would have more grip on the roller and may not lock.
