MoT Mazfest/MX5 Record Attempt

Thanks to Nick & his team for a great time at Blyton on Saturday Thumbs up , not camped for many years. I really enjoyed it & look forward to the next one, great to meet new people.

See you all again & hope all cars are feeling better soon Wink

Liz

Realistically - What record attempt?

Nowhere near enough cars, wrong time, wrong place. We travelled 230 miles that day, there and back with only approximately 50 cars attending. Very disappointed!

Maybe ok if you like racing.

So I missed it then?

Oops.

Have to agree with the disappointment, we did a 300 mile round trip on the day. Disappointing that people who signed up for the event didn’t turn up but that ain’t the fault of M.O.T. I fully accept this was a new venture for M.O.T. but to be frank the venue was rubbish, even the beer supplier went home early! In the words of my old maths tutor “must try harder” if this is to be repeated

In my defence:

1 - I’m an idiot.

2 - There were no reminders e-mailed out, unlike the event I’m going to next weekend which I’ve already had three reminders about.

3 - I’m an idiot.

50% of people are dumber than average, and you have to take that in to account when organising stuff.

I was quite lucky, was visiting Lincolnshire for the weekend so went along and had a nose about.

Picked up some great tips and met some good peeps who were very welcoming.

Was expecting a lot more in attendance, and was hoping for a few trade stalls (as I thought this was going to be a huge event) but had a fun few hours and enjoyed watching the cars on the track.  Tempted me to clear a bit of room in the garage and perhaps pick up an old non-runner to tinker with for such events.

Hi  and thanks to all who took time to talk to me and the mrs and the dog.

Finally, has anyone been on the MoT car handling courses? Fancied treating myself to one for my birthday.

I’m just trying to work out who was who on the day from the posts - worked out who liz is (from her avatar). So come on, identify yourselves ;o)

 hi

i will be going on one of the car control days at finmere on the 10th september

to help you work out who is who

liz (yellow j ltd) is my mum and i had the stripped out green mk1 that had a disagreement with a few cones on one of the sessions.  i had the toyota landcruiser and big trailer for the mx5

So does this mean the current record stands at 50?

No, there were more than 50 MX5s on the track at Rockingham on Monday.

Jack.

No, this is the official Guinness World Record for ‘Parade of Mazda Cars’ and I believe the one that they were trying to beat at MazFest.

 http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/records/travel_and_transport/cars/largest_parade_of_mazda_cars.aspx

Note that you need to have an official from Guinness World Records for any attempt to be validated.

Looks to me like a potential event for the 2011 calendar.

We’ve broken World Records without officials present, what you need is proof to support any claim - for us that was photo and video, as well as being witnessed by a few local dignitaries (the local mayor and a couple of other senior people from the sport) and the info was sent to Guiness World Records as well as the media. They agreed and sent certificate etc, though it did take some time to get it.

But 249 is a huge number, it would take a massive gathering and a lot of logistics to get that number on a track.

Jack.

I drove 346 miles there and back(i left at 5.30am. Had a great laugh did some skids, got every one clapping for my spinning on clut slicks Yes i heard you lol.

its a the first year the event has been run and wait for next year when blyton really gets going.

Cheers

Ollie

The web site is crap, it doesnt even have an address for the place on it, so people arent going to travel miles not knowing where they are going. Anyway have emailed the owner and he says he will add an address !!

If people want an “event” with traders etc, its more like 18 months+ of organsing, so now too late for summer 2011; more like spring-summer 2012.

Gotcha, you were laying into it with lump hammers and scaffold tubes as I was arriving! Impressed the team effort had you straight back out on track ;o)

I was thinking of the one in late November at Finmere - just before my b’day.

Ollie, was that you doing a bit of spud picking after the last bend? and your Mrs giving my Mrs scarf tips?

AT - that wasn’t a criticism as such, more a comment on my green-ness to all this stuff. I’m more used to track days with BMW bikes, usually had some dealer and specialists tip up at Goodwood and the like for our track thrashes.

i might even be at that one as well (money permitting) come and say hi and hopefully i will remember you.  the trouble with denting the wing and fixing it there was that it got quite a lot of attention so im afraid i cant remember individual people as several people stopped to have a look and a chat and thanks to the people that helped me get it back into shape so i could get back out on track if you are on here

 Hi

I was the one with the hammer who helped get your wing back to shape

Hope to see you at soemother track or meets

Andy
