MP3 CDs

I’ve got a 56 reg mk3 NC and I’ve tried making mp3 CDs but it won’t play them it says check disc I also tried burning audio CDs and it’s the same. Anyone else had this problem? and is there a fix? I am assuming it’s a computer issue and not actually the car? I’ve been burning them on widows 10 pc and also tried a Windows xp

Are you confident that it is designed to play them? What does the instruction book say? Do they play in other cars you know are compatible?

You may find getting one of these is more useful

cd’s are old hat, much better putting your tunes on your phone or ipod device and playing from there. The lead plugs into the rear of the head unit, it can be a fiddle or a breeze depending on your dexterity getting up behind the head unit, assume you have a Mk3?

I eventually went one step further and installed a different head unit, now I play my tunes off, phone via BT or from the built in USB socket via a mini flash drive.

Yes it has the mp3 logo on it and says in the manual, i used to be able to burn them for my last 2 mk3 I had I think it’s something to do with a Microsoft update that’s altered the way it burns them.

Yes I guess something like that, but I like the steering wheel controls rather than fiddling around with a phone

Mine’s a 12 reg NC2 with the Bose unit - never had any issues with playing MP3s on CDs (all discs I use in the car are in MP3 format so I can load a lot of music into the changer).  I burn at 320mbps, Windows 8.1 OS using Cyberlink Power2Go.

Just a thought - I have a portable CD player which also plays MP3s, but if there’s a bit of dirt on the lens I find that, while it’ll still play ordinary CDs OK, it refuses to play any CDs I’ve burnt - including those with MP3s.  I just get an error message “Check Disc”; cleaning the lens immediately fixes this issue.  Wonder whether your problem might be something similar?

I recently discovered that Win10 has changed a few options when burning CDs, including not being able to burn an ISO image that I needed to update something a while ago.

I’m not around my PC for a few days but did you still get the option to finalise the disc so it can be played in any machine ? If you don’t do that step, you can only open it on a Windows computer.

After failing many times to get a mp3 disc to play in my 2006 NC I opted for a USB interface of eBay for under 20 pounds…not had the radio on since…very pleased with it.

Item number 253065662059 or similar worked for me.

Forget any notion of getting an MP3 CD to play.

I tried everything I could think of.

CD+r, CD-R, Different mp3 formats, different encoding rates, files in folder structures, files without a folder structure, short names, long names.

Despite my audio unit having an MP3 logo on the front, it will not play MP3’s.

I wasted anything like 20 CD’s trying.

Purchase one of these

And plug your phone in via AUX, or even connect a bluetooth receiver to it the above cable and bluetooth to it.

Although you would need to supply power for a BT reciever.

Hi there – not had a problem with Audio CDs, but MP3 never worked for me. I believe it’s something to do with the amount of data being too much for the disc player to cope with.

I like to play music whilst out in the MX5, and found the best solution for me was to Bluetooth my MP3 / Radio downloads to the AUX input via a cheapo Bluetooth receiver, whilst filling the CD player with non-home made discs.

This works really well for me– everything is nice and clear and loud, and if I get to a track I don’t fancy I just flick to the other input.
