I recently bought an NC and was going to use it as a daily allowance year round. I’ve since had a change of heart and I’m now looking to get another vehicle.
I was thinking of using multi car insurance through Aviva as that’s who my 1.8 sport venture is insured through, my premium is £240 with £250 excess. When I added another car on it rocketed to £915 for both, the other car is a Toyota IQ value £3k.
I think the new premium is a bit excessive does anyone have a recommendation for another insurance company for multi car insurance.
Over the last 20 years I have only managed to find a multicar policy that was cheaper than 2 [or more] policies twice.
When you get some quotes, try using your NCD on the Toyota and have the MX5 with 0. It goes against all sense but I have found that the MX5 is often cheaper to insure than an ordinary car even after you remove the NCD. I know cancelling insurance half way through the year is not ideal but it may work out cheaper.
Hi thanks for replying I was confused a bit to be fair, however I believe that the IQ is a very low insurance group anyway.
What I should have quantified too was Since passing my test at 18 I’ve been fortunate not to have ever had to make a claim. I’m 59 now so I have a good history.
I think it’s going to be a bit of research now.
I know it’s weird. It’s an age and how long you’ve owned the car for thing i think. We have a Corsa, a Zafira, a Leaf, a TT [3.2] and the 5. The 5 and the TT are by far the cheapest to insure. The Zafira was twice the price of the 5 and the leaf was twice as much as the leaf. Baffling.
Going through the same process but I’ve lost my MX-5 (sold it) so down to one car. Both the MX-5 and daily driver were on a multi policy with the home insurance. Now my daily driver comes out at well over £500, 2 years ago I could get both cars for that plus home insurance for another £78 on the multi policy.
Not going to happen I’m afraid this renewal, well over £600 for 1 car and home insurance.
This is with Admiral renewal price this time around. Already had a tempting quote for car £314 and home £120. I’m cancelling my current renewal offer unless they can come up with something worth staying for, like matching the above.
Am I cynical to think that the insurance industry keeps changing their rules/algorithms to keep us poor mugs bewildered and avg premiums always on an upward trajectory?
I am always bewildered when phoning to discuss the quote they nearly always tippee tap on the keyboard or put you on hold to ask the boss (or most likely sit chatting to a colleague) then come back with a lower quote. They justify this sometimes with, we’ll have to increase you excess or lower your annual mileage or ask for a pint of blood.
There are not many organisations/areas in life which look out for average Joe and have always got your best interests and care in mind- insurance companies are one of them.
We had multi car with admiral when the daughters were at home. Initially it was cheaper all round, but over time we found it to be more expensive, so we all went our separate ways.
I personally have 2 cars, the mx5 and my daily, and have these on seperate policies.
Me and the missus have three cars, a daily driver each, Kia Soul & Kia Stonic, and the MX-5.
I insure all three separately, with Saga at present, and have found this to be consistently the lowest cost option.
I would recommend trying LV. Just received my renewal notice for two cars. Cheaper than last year (significantly) which was unexpected. MX5 NC part is just over £150.
I’ve just tried them for a quote, single car quote, a joke of a price, wasted my time.
It was pretty obvious they don’t want my business.
I remember a few years ago LV prices, for me, sky rocketed and I went elsewhere.
Insurance is just a con in this Country. They should change the whole concept and just insure the person not the car that way it would be based on driving history of the individual as it’s the drivers experience and abilities that generally keeps them out of trouble, yes you can be unlucky but generally it would be a bad driver that hit them.
Sorry rant over with, but it’s our governments that have allowed this nonsense to continue for far to long. As all major events are pretty much sponsored by insurance companies does it not stand to reason they are over charging hence why they are able too.
