Mx-5 all four generations review

Outsider review of the four gens, I think there’s not enough credit given to the NB / NBFL here, or the touring capability of the NC, still, not a bad watch. RF reviewed as the current version! https://youtu.be/YOFNouXbvvQ?si=ki93wlCOUGpO8r9k

Thanks for pointing that out. An enjoyable watch. I think the NB script suffered because they didn’t see much change to the NA but had to say something. NC and ND “write up” was like many other reports.

Is it a car journo requirement to be over 6 ft tall? Lots of MX-5 writing seems to focus on the cockpit being too small.

Most importantly, where did they do the driving? Beautiful roads and country, and no other cars on the road!

Agreed and thanks for the chuckle!

The chasis stiffening on the nbfl we had was streets ahead of our na (although 2002nb sport compared to 1997na basic uk spec)… then there’s the comparative tardis of a boot space. Thoroughly enjoyed both renditions for very similar reasons.

The roads and space do look lovely, I think i saw ‘Araf’ on the road markings & sheep in road warnings, perhaps somewhere mid Wales? would ask the poster of the video but they do not appear to be replying to comments on the tube video… maybe onto the next production already, let me guess, porsche boxster variants (already covered the bmv m5?!)

With that on the road, it could have been anywhere in Wales.
Didn’t see a 20mph sign though :grinning:

Nice video, I’ve also seen an American video where they compare all 4, but with the base model ND (1.5?) and they said the NC was the best car overall. I went for the NC also because I think it looks the best by far, with NA in 2nd place.

The amount of money spent on that daft idea. There’s likely sheep that can exceed the 20mph limit…!

The road they used was called ‘The Bwlch’ which is near Treorchy in the South Wales valleys. Often quite quiet especially during the week.

I recognised it as I used to cycle up it all the time 25 years ago when I lived nearby

Otherwise known as the A4061 :+1:

I think this is probably the other video where two 6ft plus journalists compare the cars on how easily they can fit in. Hence the win for the NC, because the drivers didn’t have to lie flat to see under the windscreen arch.

Full disclosure: I am 5ft 5 and I have to roll the seat forward a long way!
