I was thinking is anyone on here a member of any other mx 5 forums or do you just stay loyal to this one
There is only really this one or the US Miata one IMHO.
Just out of interest, can I add the words āā¦and why?ā to the OPs question.
I do
Variety is the spice of life.
Whilst the OC forum is probably the most popular MX-5 forum other fora(?) forums(?) have their place too. Iāve learnt alot from all of the online sources I visit.
Some folk enjoy a less structured environment whereas others particularly like things to be ājust soā.
Thereās no right or wrong simply personal preference.
I hope everyone can enjoy the diversity and camaraderie that MX-5 ownership encourages.
Cheers,
Guy
Iām a member of several in the UK, miata.net in the US and an Australian based one.
Why? Because each has (or had) its own vibe reflecting the demographic or geography and particular perspective, however all are based on the love of the car which is (I suppose) why are all here too.
Many motoring forums are being bought up by vertical scope and gradually losing their identity as they start to look the same and gain members (and spam) from everywhere so their value (in my opinion) diminishes.
Many people look to (anti)social media for discussion, however the main place where this happens is awful as it is very difficult to find/follow and validate/verify what is posted.
This forum has a huge amount of history and knowledge and continues to be (hopefully) a reliable place for members of the MX-5 Owners Club (and guests) to engage in quality discussion (mostly) around cars and other general topics.
I donāt use any other forums bar this one, MX5-Nutz had its day and I find the US one less welcomingā¦
I do however use other forms of social media like Facebook and Instagram to connect with other car enthusiasts, seems less and less people using forums these days unfortunately
This place is a ghost town compared to the US one. Larger country population of course, but itās very active.
Thatās a fair point.
How relevant to us in the UK is the US forum?
Does much of whatās talked about on there translate to whatās available here in the UK?
Iāve found this forum to offer great advice and support on a daily basis but I agree itās good to see more about MX-5s from anywhere in the world.
Itās about the SAME car. So pretty much everything.
Volume doesnāt necessarily equate to quality, which is also subjectiveā¦
I seem to be batting off a few defensive posts at the mere thought of mentioning miata.net
Go on there, the waterās fine
Iām sure the internet is large enough to accommodate all.
Absolutely, a 20 year plus member there, itās not comparable though in the terms of purpose, this forum is first and foremost for the MX-5 Owners Club.
Read my previous post above, point your browser and make your choice.
Okay, no worries.
I was just trying to answer the OPās question. I think he/she was kind of saying there is more than one choice, which often users utilise to good extent.
On the points of low / declining visitor numbers, the tracking stats say otherwise, a snapshot from this morning:
People visit this forum for answers and help that they know can be relied on from a dedicated MX-5 resource which is provided by the Owners Club with the support of members. It is a recognised and trusted, community-driven platform where experts regularly contribute to ensure the best answers. The forum is curated and managed by a knowledgeable conscientious admin team with in-depth experience of the MX-5.
Youāre not relying on the sometimes inaccurate or incomplete advice you often find through social media sources, which while vast, often lack moderation and quality control. The sheer volume of posts on Facebook, Twitter, Threads, Instagram etc can make it hard to separate sound advice from bad information. In contrast this forum is focused solely on the MX-5 , with discussions that are well-organised, easy to follow and searchable to help visitors find the answers being looked for.
Every thread in this forum is categorised for easy navigation, so whether youāre seeking advice on a specific repair or looking for recommendations, people can find exactly what they need without the clutter. On the constant feed on social media posts often disappear, making it hard to revisit specific topics, where this forum serves as a permanent, searchable database of knowledge that users can reference again and again, providing a lasting resource for MX-5 owners. It is a living library that continues to grow with each new question and solution shared by the community.
Users are encouraged to register and engage with the forum, which builds accountability and increases the trustworthiness of advice. At present with unregistered visitors outnumbering registered members at around 3 to 1 on any given day, thousands of visitors benefit from the wealth of knowledge being shared by engaged members who stand by their answers. Our admin team ensures posts are relevant, helpful, and correct, giving users the peace of mind that the advice they receive is accurate and reliable.
Popular topics like oil, tyres, underbody treatment, insurance and MOT help are well-documented, with past conversations, tutorials, and guides archived for easy access. This means you can quickly search through years of detailed discussions rather than scrolling endlessly through unrelated posts as you might have to on social media sources.
and unlike social media, where posts can often be interrupted by other irrelevant content or ads, our forum strives to offer a distraction-free environment where you can engage with other MX-5 owners without bombardment of unrelated content.
Ultimately, this forum is home to dedicated MX-5 enthusiasts who share the same passion and commitment to keeping these cars in their best condition. Whether youāre a new owner or a seasoned MX-5 expert, this focused community makes it easy to get to the right advice, rather than dealing with a broad, often non-car-specific audience in other sources.
The US forum mentioned here is without question a larger resource, it too is a dedicated place for the Miata in the same way as this forum is for the MX-5 (they are and are not the same car).
Miata net has also been able to keep its original format for all of its existence as it is not linked to a Club, and while it is dated now, it remains a very important resource for the car. However that, along with the scale of the US audience, means it is frequently tilted to answers and suppliers on that side of the pond. Several years ago the Club had to make an incredibly difficult decision to move forum platforms - and while for many years the older forum remained as a searchable archive resource, it could no longer function and integrate with the Club membership platform which is why this Discourse platform was implemented, however while some was able to transition, it did mean a considerable amount of knowledgable information was not accessible in the same way , though this has quickly built back up again and continues to be added to daily.
This is the only forum I am a member of pertaining to MX-5ās I joined the club when I got my then 16 year old NBFL because I wanted to do as much maintenance as my very limited skills would allow myself and unlimited access to the foum has been a huge benefit of membership.
When trouble shooting Iāll usually google, for example, why is my '02 NBFL flux capacitor not working and scan the results. MX5OC.co.uk usually provides the top listed answers and often there are results on the US miata.net, have to bear in mind they drive on the wrong side of the road and MX5nutz pages, you never can have enough on line resources and it is always interesting to see what opinions there are from further afield.
I am also a member of various MX5 groups on fb and even founded a couple on fb one for NBFLās, not very active and another for touring, even less active though the original members of the touring group usually meet up at least twice a year and often at MX5 Owners Club events on top of that.
Not 100% sure I understand the wording of the emboldened words.
However, other than mild spec differences, left hand driver etc, a US ND is, to all intents an purposes the same as a UK ND. Masses of ND information is available on āmiataā.net, as it is on here too.
I do agree with you regarding facebook-like āresourcesā though,
fundamentally the cars are the same, an NA is an NA as an ND is an ND, but there are a marked number differences in things like the parts list for all generations of MX-5 that vary for the different markets - certainly the various mechanical differences for the LHD/RHD as well as software versions on the current models, and there are other market differences with various regulations, such as pedestrian safety systems, running lights, engine sizes options, emissions, as well spec lists, pricing, retained value etc - means there are very different conversations to be had that are relevant to UK and US markets, as there are to Japanese, European, Asian and Australian markets it is all nuanced, but there are also wide discussion areas that apply globally.
Additionally things like weather and environmental and just sheer distances are incomprehensibly different between here and US and those factors create a whole range of market specific factors that are applicable one way or the other.
This forum would be my first recommendation for any UK owners and enthusiasts. Rare to find a question that canāt be answered by all the helpful and knowledgeable members. Things rarely get out of hand and when they do admin are always on the case. 99% civilised and friendly without any admin involvement.
Miata.net can be a useful resource for some obscure subjects and problems but I only end up going there when I get a link in a Goggle search.
Iām a member (and moderator) of another UK forum MXfivers.com. A small but very friendly UK group.
Many people donāt like Facebook but find and join the right groups and itās OK. Checked though my groups on there and Iām a member of ten MX-5 groups including one in Belgium and one in Italy and on those the built in translation option is very helpful.
Something for everyone online and all have there uses. As MX-5 enthusiasts we have more in common than divides us.
